Benny grumbled as he looked at the array of paints in front of him. He was not an artist. Didn't even like art. The only reason he had taken this course was because he needed an elective, and Mimi was in it. Sighing, he picked up a brush and dipped it into the water, then let it hover over the paints, dripping into the pots. Paint a landscape, the teacher had said. "How am I supposed to do that?" he muttered, looking over at Mimi helplessly.

Mimi was drawn out of her fleshing out of her idea as she caught Benny's gaze. She couldn't help but giggle a bit, turning slightly in her seat to face him. "You look like a little puppy who's just been told his owner is going on a week long cruise without him," she commente, grinning. "What ya need help with babe?" She dug out a scrp sheet of notebook paper as she talked, starting to sketch out her idea before beginning to paint. She wanted to make sure she'd be able to display what she saw in her head without completely butchering it. She'd just as soon erase a mistake in pencil than completely start over on a painting.

Benny put his paintbrush down and pouted at Mimi. Looking down at her sketch, he sighed. "That's what I need help with. Yours actually looks like a landscape. Mine looks like..." he peered at his own piece of paper, "Like a bunch of lines." He shook his head. This was only the first class and he was already in over his head. He had no idea how he was going to ge through the year.

An 'aww!' resounded in Mimi's head as Benny pouted. She stole a quick glance at Mr. Sung to make sure he wasn't paying attention, then leaned over and kissed Benny's cheek gently. "It'll come to you eventually. Don't overthink it, though. It's obvious when you overthink. It looks too forced."
Pursing her lips for a moment, she looked over his paper, trying to pull something from it. "Well ... you could ..." She trailed off, still peering down at the paper. "This could be a river here," she said, conecting a few lines with her pencil. "And there could be some mountains in the background," she added, moving upward on the paper and connecting a few more lines. "And this," she finished, moving down to the bottom right corner of the paper, "is a tree. What do you think of that?"

Benny looked down at his paper and wondered how you were supposed to not overthink this kind of thing. He was becoming frustrated and had half a mind to just toss his 'sketch' into the garbage and be done with it. "I guess 'forced' is another word for 'like crap'," he joked, half-heartedly, sighing as he glared at the paper.
After a moment, Mimi's hand crossed his paper and he watched as she basically connected the dots on his paper. He stared in fascination as she worked almost not believing what was happening to his picture. When she was finished, Benny stared at the landscape a moment longer. He then turned his head to look at Mimi and blinked, then looked back at his paper. "Wow," was all he could manage. It was like a completely new skecth. "Can you, you know, do all my sketches for me, babe?" he asked, looking at her with wide eyes.

Mimi rolled her eyes good-naturedly, shaking her head. "No, it isn't. There's just no or very little emotion to the painting, and it looks like you just slapped something on paper to be done with it," she explained. She smiled a bit as he glared at the paper, adding, "Ya know, I've heard if you glare at it long enough, you'll burn a hole through the paper." She hoped it'd lighten the mood a bit.
Her smile widened a bit after she finished, seeing him gape at the paper. Art always had been one of her stronger subjects. "I'm glad you like it," she quipped, a soft blush creeping to her cheeks. She chuckled a bit at his question, shaking her head gently. "As long as you give me some idea of what it is you're wanting to do, and you paint it, I'll sketch it out for you, yes."

Benny looked at Mimi as she explained exactly what he had done. The girl seemed to be able to see right through him. "And what emotion is there in a landscape, Mimi?" he asked. If Mr. Sung wanted emotion, he should have let him paint a picture of Mimi or a football game. Now that would get some emotion out of Benny. But a landscape? Benny laughed a little at Mimi's comment. "Burning a hole in it doesn't sound like such a bad idea to me," he said with a grin, reaching over to discretely squeeze her hand. She always did have a way of cheering him up.
"Naw, I'm just kidding, babe," Benny replied, smiling. "I'll draw them. I just might need a bit of extra help. And I think I know just the little artist who could do that," he winked at her, "And I give kisses for payment," he teased.

Mimi paused a moment, frowning gently in thought. "Well, it's not blatantly obvious, but it's there. It could be a place in your backyard you loved as a child, or the park where you got your first kiss. There'll be emotion portrayed there because the place you're painting is special to you," she said, shrugging her shoulders gently. She laughed a bit herself, squeezing Benny's hand back. "Yeah, but it might make painting the landscape a bit difficult, don't ya think?"
Mimi nodded, still smiling. "Alright. Just let me know if you need help." She laughed again at his last comment, quickly closing her mouth and going back to her own sketch after receiving a warning glance from Mr. Sung. "Well, if that's the case, I may just paint it for you," she teased back, flashing another small smile.

Benny stared at his sketch once more. Well, if it was supposed to be of a place he knew, that changed everything. Mr. Sung had just said landscape. Benny hadn't been thinking about any of those kinds of places. Looking back at Mimi, he grinned crookedly, "You're so smart," he said, "What would I do without you. Wait. I already know what. I'd burn a hole in my paper." Chuckling a bit at Mimi's statement about having a hole in his paper, he replied, "I could work with it. It'd just be part of my artistic brilliance!" He puffed his chest out, grinning.
Benny glanced up at Mr. Sung as he looked at Mimi and rolled his eyes. Everyone seemed to like the guy, but Benny... well, maybe he just needed more time for the teacher to grow on him. "It's okay, Mimi," he assured her, "Whether you paint it or not, I'll still give you kisses." To illustrate his point, he leaned over and gave her a quick kiss on the nose.

Mimi smiled, shaking her head. "I'm not that smart, art just happens to be one of my stronger points," she pointed out. She laughed a bit, shaking her head again. "And probably the table too, knowing you like I do." She buried her face in her hands, shaking with silent laughter. "You're too cute, you know that?" she asked, poking his chest gently. She smiled as he kissed her nose, trying not laugh again. "Well, that's good. If you only kissed me when I did something for you, we'd have some problems."
((sorry for the lack of length, my muse stopped on me momentarily.))

"Aw, Mimi," Benny said with a grin, "I'd kiss you right here if it wouldn't get me detention." He glanced over at the teacher, who was busy helping another student. "Oh, what the hell!" he said, leaning forward to place a quick kiss on her lips, "Thanks for the help with my sketch, babe." Turning back to his work, he picked up his paintbrush, holding it over the blue paint. "So what do you think, Miss Expert? Blue for the sky?" He asked with a wink.
((My muse is dead, too.. and I was sure I replied to this earlier... clearly I didn't... sorry))

((that sux. and it's not a problem. no one died, so we're good. )) Mimi smiled, a small giggle escaping her. She kissed him back quickly, then turned back to her sketch. It was missing something, she just couldn't figure out what. She laughed again at Benny's question, shaking her head. "Well, that is the color typically used, but, hey, it could be grey and stormy. It's up to you babe. Although blue is my personal preference. It's a bit happier."

Benny smiled at Mimi. "Well, then, blue it is," he said, running the paintbrush over the upper portion of the paper. This was the easy part. Like those colouring books he used to play with when he was a kid. Fill in the blanks. No problem. He was getting into the groove of it, and had managed to paint both the sky and the mountains, before he noticed that Mimi seemed to be stuck with her sketch. "What's wrong, babe?" he asked, glancing up at the clock. He blinked, surprised at how much time had passed - he must have gotten more engrossed in this painting thing than he had realized.

Mimi nodded, smiling. "Alright." She turned back to her sketch, chewing on her lower lip. She could tell this wasn't just going to come to her; it'd probably nag at her for awhile. She drummed her fingers on her knee, frowning slightly in thought. She glanced up when she heard Benny's voice, looking over at his painting. "Don't get too into it, now. You might actually enjoy yourself," she teased, smiling. She sighed softly at his question, adding, "It needs something, but I don't know what it is. It'll probably bug me all afternoon."

Benny looked at Mimi's sketch and honestly didn't know what she was talking about. To him, it looked like something that could be hung in a museum once she was finished. As opposed to his which looked like... well, it looked like a page from a colouring book. "It looks fantasic to me, Mimi," he said, honestly, squeezing her hand.
The bell rang and Benny quickly put his things away. When he was finished, he looked back at Mimi. "Don't let it bug you all day. Especially since we have a date tonight. Wouldn't want you pondering art the whole time," he teased. "I have to stop by my locker, and then the gym. Meet me at Smitty's?"
