Penny sighed as she walked the Scarsdale Streets. She didn't run this time. She didn't want to get home, even though she knew she was going to be in huge trouble if she didn't. Her parents had to notice she wasn't there, practicing like she was supposed to, eventually. She just never remembered feeling this free before.
She forced a smile as she kicked a stray rock. She had fun, she did. Her parents would never have let her get ice cream. It would have supposedly "ruin her figure". As if she ever really wanted to be a dancer. But God forbid she have her own choice in that matter or in anything.
She checked her watch. She had been out of the mansion for about an hour. Her parents would probably check on her within another hour. There were too many dinner prepartions to bother with her until then. So she had some time. She just had to attempt being sneaky. After all, what if one of her parents' friends saw her? They were a bit more sympathetic, but they'd still rat her out none the less.
So what was she going to do with her time? All she could think of was just walking. That was fine...it was soothing. Plus, she could practically hear lyrics playing in her head, just waiting to be written. This time she smiled genuinely.

Kyle had been sent by his parents to go pick up batteries at the store. And they wouldn't let him take his car. "You need to get out!" they said. "Go get some air!" Like he needed it. Like he needed the air. While he was thinking about it, he hit shoulders with somebody. "Sorry about that, I..." He looked up. "Penny? What are you doing out?"

"Whoa, sorry!" Penny made a mental note that she had to stop crashing into people. Then she saw who she crashed into and wondered if she should scratch that. "Kyle, hey!" She placed on an innocent expression. "Oh...nothing. Just snuck out of my bedroom window..." she said casually. It was amazing she kept a straight face saying that.

"Oh, come on. Seriously. That's..." Kyle looked off to the side. He didn't know whether to tell her that it was a good thing or that it put her in way too much danger than was really necessary. "That's...not how I would have approached that problem, Penny. But it looks like you're...managing, so I won't bother you with it again."

Penny bit her lip. "Well...maybe not..." She thought as quickly as she could in search for some sort of explanation. "But if I heard Swan Lake one more time, I was going to wind up hurting somebody." She let out a sheepish smile as she placed her hands in her pockets. "So, what about you? What brings you here?"

"I'm running to the store for my mom. She wants me to go pick up some batteries for God knows what reason. Swan Lake. Right." Kyle nodded. He still wasn't sure if that's what she should be doing. If it was the best way to handle her...problem.

Penny nodded. "Ohh, I see. Well, let it not be me to interrupt you. I was just stalling really. It'll be another hour or so before they even notice I'm gone." She shrugged a bit. Despite what she said, she didn't move.
In the silence, she listened for a moment. So far, there weren't any familiar screams, so it looked like if April was ranting, she was being unusually quiet about it. Good.

"And...you're going when?" Kyle looked at her funny. It wasn't as if he wanted her gone. It was just that she wasn't going...and she said she would. "You're just...um, standing. So much for going out on the town, eh? You're really wild."

Penny glanced up and internally groaned. Why oh why did she make a fool of herself half the time? She forced a smile. "Yeah...haha, very funny. Anyways, I just realized I don't have anywhere to go but home...and I'm just not ready for that yet. So...yeah..."

"Come get batteries with me? Unless, you know, you wanna walk half speed until you get home. Cause that can be done, you know?" Or you can just get batteries..." Kyle sighed. "I'm just repeating what I've already said, aren't I?"
((this is pre Fiddler, right? i'm just checking.))

((Yep. )) "Well...actually, that sounds like a better idea." Any previous embarassment was ebbing away. "So, I think I'll take you up on your offer..." A small smile grew on her face. After all, it was better than wandering aimlessly. "Shall we?"

"Sure." Kyle linked arms with her, laughing. "Do you know where to get batteries cheap? 'Cause I don't shop. I actually have close to no idea what I'm doing. Except, you know, getting batteries."

Penny chuckled a bit as he linked arms with her. He certainly had a sense of humor. She thought for a minute. "Umm...let's see now..." She scanned the streets. "I think around here. They sell just about everything and I'm pretty sure I've seen batteries near the greeting cards. I don't really know why they would sell them, but I won't question it." She shrugged.

Kyle raised an eyebrow. "Well," he said, "That's pretty weird." He looked through the window of the shop in question, seeing only greeting cards. "You sure there's batteries here? Cause I don't see any. I don't see anything except greeting cards."

Penny nodded as she led them to the door. "I'm sure, trust me," she insisted. "They mainly sell greeting cards, but there are definitely quite a few random items. That includes batteries." She glanced through the window of the door. "Aha! See? I'm not going crazy." She chuckled a bit as if to reinstate the point that she was joking.
