Tommy snickered and shrugged looking at April, "I would compare it to a frog with laryangitis," He teased his friend. Then he looked up at Mark, "So you're not opera material. You still had a pretty good voice Cohen. And I'm not saying that to butter up my director." After pausing for a while, Tommy decided to say, "Pick your battles," He said with a nod. "Take a B or C if you get one. It all depends on the subject...wow I actually got serious there for a moment. Also make sure to chew gum while doing your homework," He teased. Tommy had to glare a little at Mark, all in good fun of course. "Fine, Markie, I'll let Maureen tell me things about you which I will not tell you," He said with a overly huge grin, "Is it? Probably..." He turned to his script and nodded. Although he said that he didn't know much of the script and teased Mark and April about it, truthfully, he knew it pretty well. "Golde, I have decided to give Perchik permission to become engaged to our daughter, Hodel....are we on the same page?" He asked. [haha I sent them all to you but not to myself so if this isn't the starting point kick me.]

"Thanks, Tommy. That's a really nice comparison," Mark replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "It isn't quite as bad as he'd lead you to believe. But I certainly wouldn't be winning any singing competitions. Or participating, really," he told April.
"I've only survived because its the only way to get out. And that's exactly what I intend to do... get out of Scarsdale as fast as possible," Mark replied. He shook his head and sighed, hoping that wasn't going to open up a new can of worms.
Mark raised an eyebrow at Tommy's comment about getting Maureen to tell him things. "Tommy... you sure you don't have that backwards? I mean, I don't think she could give you any ammunition if you're looking to blackmail me." He shrugged as Collins delivered his first line.
((Yeah, that's right))

April rolled her eyes at the verbal jousting between those two. Sometimes they acted like little children. Not that she really minded. In some cases, it was quite amusing. "Hah, I knew you weren't bad! But hey, who said you had to join any competitions? That can suck the fun out of it."
April winced at how badly they wanted to get out of there. She was right with them in that case. Not so much for her, but for Penny's sake. She had to get away from her parents and the insecurity they gave her. She was such a great kid and it wasn't fair how they treated her.
It took Tommy's first line to snap April out of it. At least she had a good way to channel the bubbling annoyance toward her aunt and uncle resurfacing. "What??? He's poor! He has nothing, absolutely nothing!" Perhaps it had a bit more venom than she had intended, but it was better on that line than on Mark or Tommy. She didn't want to hurt their feelings because she was being bitter.

Tommy smirked. "Awww...more Marky. Don't worry, kid. I'm sure you'll get through life just fine without having to sing." Then he pointed to April as if he agreed with her. "I'm with her. You should do it! Go and be bad, but be bad with an attitude," He said gladly teasing his friend.
Tommy nodded slowly, "I know the feeling Cohen...and then I don't really wanna leave," He said after some thought. Next year, it was going to be frightening mainly because Angel would be a long ways away. And even though he wanted to believe that him and Angel could go the distance, he did wonder if they could live that far apart.
"Damn, Cohen. You have a good point there," Tommy chuckled before turning to Maureen. "I'm acting now," He explained to his friend. "He's a good man Golde," Tommy said quietly as if he was trying to combat April's loudness with quiteness. "I like him. And what's more important, Hodel likes him. Hodel loves him," He said the word "love" as if it was a foreign object. "So what can we do? It's a new world. A new world...love Golde." Tommy looked up at April with hopeful eyes.
"And then I start singing..." Tommy smirked in Mark's direction. "Do you know what notes these are? Or should I just follow your recording?"

Mark just shook his head about the singing conversation. It was a lost cause. He wasn't going to get those two off of the subject very easily.
"If I were in your position, I might feel that way. But the only thing that would really keep me here after I graduate next year is Lilly. And I think she wants out almost as badly as I do," Mark replied.
Mark listened in silence as Tommy went through his lines. Then they began to talk about the song. "Well, I don't read music, so the answer to that would be no. Just follow the recording," he said, switching on the CD player that had been left in the room for them. He put the CD in and turned it to the correct track so they could hear what it was supposed to sound like.

April sensed Mark's annoyance and finally decided to drop the subject. Besides, it was time to rehearse, not comment on Mark Cohen's talent (or lack there of, whichever it was) for singing. She sent a pointed glance to Tommy as if to let him know that it was time to let the subject die.
April let out sympathetic smiles to the two boys. "Hence why I'm glad that my boyfriend is in my grade. We'll still have a good amount of time together before the death that is college overtakes us." Perhaps there was good reason for her and Dwayne's break up, but of course, at the time she was crushed. But she had Roger. Talented, amazing Roger.
April nodded as she feigned annoyance, turning from Tommy. All there was now was for him to start singing. She listened carefully to the music to pick up the range needed.

Tommy raised his brow at the look that April was giving him. "You know we're only pretend married right?" He asked her with a slight chuckle. "You don't have to glare at me like that for real."
He nodded slowly. Both him and Mark had to hang around while someone that they cared about was still in Scarsdale. "You do got it good, April. You don't gotta worry about that...gap thing so much. You know? The since I'm moving away we'll..." He waved his hand and shrugged like it was not his problem, "You know what I mean."
"Oh ok, thanks man," Tommy said listening to the recording and mimicing it, "Do you love me?" He sang quietly as if he was afraid to hear the answer.

Mark smirked at Tommy's response to April. He was just glad that the topic of conversation had turned away from him.
"Yeah, April, you're lucky. You aren't going to have to worry about leaving someone behind. I just wish there was some way I could get Lilly out of here sooner. I hate the thought of her being here, alone, with our parents," he said. He then realized what he'd said, but chose not to react. Maybe Tommy and April wouldn't have noticed his little slip of the tongue.
Mark just listened as Tommy began to sing. He had to admit, his friend's voice was good.

April smirked and rolled her eyes. "I realize that, thank you. Otherwise I think I'd feel a lot more awkward mister. And I wasn't glaring. I was merely trying to give you the hint to stop ragging on Marky on his voice, that's all. Even I know when to quit."
April smiled weakly toward the guys. "Aww, it's not like the Dark Ages. I mean, I'm not asking you to bother to show your faces to lowly Scarsdale for holidays, but hey, there's always phones and e-mail, if you don't forget about us that is," she said jokingly. That did worry her though. Although Mark had no excuse to forget; his sister was still here.
"Do I what?" April sang back, her eyes widening. After all, Golde would probably be sure that she didn't really hear that.

Tommy stuck his tongue out at her trying to be the mature one. "Well excuse me Ms. Ericcson. I'm sorry Mark. I was only teasing. You happy now?" He asked April putting his hand on his hip like he was annoyed, but his grin on his face said otherwise.
Tommy watched Mark noticing that he mentioned his parents. He always knew something was off there with his parents but he wasn't willing to probe him for information about them. Not now. It wasn't like he could offer him shelter himself considering his parents just let him back in the house, but were giving him the silent treatment. "April's right. And you know...there's always Mimi. She's a nice girl we could get her to keep an eye out for Lilly. And I'm sure that there are other nice kids out there."
"Do you love me?" Tommy sang with a bit more urgency in his voice as if he was eager to hear the answer.

"Apology accepted," Mark joked. "Oh, and Tommy, never do that again."
"Eh, I think I can manage an e-mail every once in a while. Maybe not the phone... can't eat pizza and watch TV while you talk on the phone," Mark joked. He realized that Tommy had caught the comment, but April hadn't. Thank Yaweh for small favors, he thought. At least Tommy wouldn't bring it up. Mark trusted him, mainly because he knew when to let sleeping dogs lie. And that was one dog that Mark wanted to shoot with a tranquilizer dart to keep it asleep forever.
Mark watched as Tommy and April interacted over the beginning lines of the scene. Maybe this whole directing thing wouldn't be so bad after all.

April raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms. "Thomas Collins, what was that for? Whatever it was for, I'm with Mark. No more sticking your tongue out. You're going into college! You can't afford that!" She let out a smirk to let him know she was only kidding.
April chuckled. "Well, do what you can, got it?" She glanced between the guys. What did she miss? It was times like this that she wished she had Dwayne's skills in observing. Chances were she'd be in on whatever the two boys were thinking about. "And Penny might be able to...I mean, she's about two years younger, but I think Lilly and Penny will get along. And I'll definitely do what I can." The truth was, she was trying to have Penny make more friends. She needed to be around real people; not those rich brats her parents made her spend time with.
Having an expression as if she were processing Tommy (or Tevye's, really) question, she answered, "Do I love you?" She immediately shook her head and continued. "With our daughters getting married and this trouble in the town, you're upset, you're worn out. Go inside, go lie down! Maybe it's indigestion," she ended with a strained, but hopeful expression on her face. After all, Golde was supposed to think that her husband had finally lost his mind here, right?

"You got it Marky," Tommy said with a smirk. He made an internal note not to pick on Mark's singing. Although it was fun to pick on Mark, he knew that every so often the teasing wasn't so appreciated. And that wasn't as much fun. "Sure I can! Didn't you know 'Tongue Sticking Out 101' is a prerequiste for most of the classes?"
"Ah the beauty of multi-tasking. I see what you're gonna be up to Cohen. I see," Tommy winked at him. He thought about saying something to him about his parents. But instead, he offered Mark a sad smile. He hoped that Mark coudl translate that into 'I'm here if you need me.' Tommy forrowed his brows, "Who's Penny?"
"Golde, I'm asking you a question," Tommy grumbled with some power behind his voice. Tyeve would think that he was the man of the house, but it was obvious from the script that Golde wore the real pants in the relationship. "Do you love me?" He sang with a quiet voice.

Mark laughed. "I was actually talking about him putting his hand on his hip like that... looks kind of girly," Mark replied, still smiling at them.
Mark smiled back at April; he was glad that his usual awkwardness around girls didn't extend to his best friend's girlfriend. "I'll try," he replied, letting her know he was joking. Mark just nodded at Tommy's look, figuring that he knew what it meant. They would talk after rehearsal, anyway.

April rolled her eyes. "I'm not even going to touch that one Tommy. It was too dumb to acknowledge." Then at Mark's comment, she narrowed her eyes, half playful, half serious. "And what's so wrong with that Mister Cohen?" She greatly hated gender expectations, so that comment annoyed her. Of course, she wasn't going to pull some of her feminazi acts on Mark. He was too good of a friend for that.
"Ohh, she's my cousin. She just moved up a grade into this school, very much against her will," April explained to Tommy with a small frown. "You might have seen her. About an inch shorter than me, red hair...might mistake her for my sister?"
With that, she sighed, shaking her head. "You're a fool," she responded, lowering her voice to Tommy's level as if she were saying it more to herself than anything else.
