Dwayne internally groaned at Lilly's question. Great. Caroline would be able to scold him about always doing this kind of thing and make him look horrible around Lilly. It wasn't as if he meant to be a heartbreaker. While it was sort of his fault for being picky, that didn't necessarily mean that he was hopeless, did it?

"Oh...sooo many stories. The one about the roller rink. And the time with the bathtub. And even with the bottle remember?" Caroline asked with a huge smile. So large it was somewhat fake. It was a way of acting Dwayne what he thought he was doing. She thought that the game plan was to avoid breaking another lady's heart and finding one for Caroline. At least, that's what she always hoped was on his mind.

Dwayne smiled weakly toward Caroline. "Yeah...good times, hmm?" he responded. He knew exactly what Caroline's motives were and he was doing his very best to ignore them for the moment. He leaned back slightly, looking back and forth from one girl to another. He was beginning to wonder how far Caroline was going to go to prevent this "disaster waiting to happen", which seemed to be what she thought of his flirting.

Lilly's mouth dropped in a sort of open-mouthed smirk. "Oh really? Do tell! What's the 'bathtub' incident?" She looked up, noticing a sort of understanding between them that she didn't really get.

"Ah the bathtub incident," Caroline sighed as if it was a happy memory. It wasn't exatcly a bad one but not that pleasent either. "Well...Dwayne here had a young lady in his presence. You know being that charmer that he is." She moved over to punch him in the arm. "And well..things progressed and somehow...he could explain taht to you, she ended up falling into the bathtub and breaking her toe. That was a fun emergency room visit. I was downstairs minding my own business you see." Caroline smiled and looked at Dwayne shaking her head.

Dwayne winced. "Gee, thanks for reminding me Caroline. I'm sure that Lilly was shivering with anticipation to hear that story" he remarked sarcastically. "And minding your own business? You? Who exactly are you trying to fool? And I can say that, because I don't mind my own business either."

Lilly covered her mouth, retaining a laugh. "That's great...in the bathroom?" She raised a somewhat suspicious eyebrow. And she could definitely tell he wasn't the type to mind his own business...she looked up at them with a curious face, as if asking for answers.

Dwayne bit his lip. "Let's just say I was trying to avoid my parents at all costs..." he remarked, running a nervous hand through his hair. "Desperate times call for desperate measures." He shrugged a bit, trying to not think of how horrible things got after the bath tub incident. He seemed to be jinxed or something. At least Caroline thought so and if your best friend thinks you're jinxed, there's something wrong.

"Ok, I wasn't exactly minding my own busniess. But I wasn't evesdropping or anything cause...well that would be gross on many levels. Plus you know...not into the boys thing," Caroline said waving her hand around. She never really thought her being a lesbian was a big deal. She never really "came out" cause she was never in the closet. When she was seven, she watched Sleeping Beauty and told her mother that she wanted to kiss Sleeping Beauty awake. It was evident then and she never tip toed around it.
"Watch this one, Lilly," Caroline said truthfully. "That cuteness thing...yeah it gets old after a while." She winked at her.

Lilly smiled at this, a faint blush reappearing on her cheeks. There was something about the way he ran his hand through his hair that...she didn't want to think about it. Apparently his friend was trying to convey a message to her that he was bad news. She was this close to agreeing with her, but there was that little grain of honesty there...

Dwayne rolled his eyes. "I know Caroline, I know...and I have to admit, that I appreciate you not eavesdropping, even though I realize that I deserve it fully." That was part of the reason he was friends with Caroline. For one thing, she was honest with herself and for another, she put up with the times where he was an absolute jackass.
He glanced toward Lilly, getting that familiar urge to know what she was thinking. He could already tell that she was almost like a living puzzle. He mentally kicked himself for not just listening to Caroline.
((Hehe. Love the Sleeping Beauty story. That was actually me, only with...hmm...I think it was The Little Mermaid, although Ariel isn't under a sleeping spell there...and plus, I never actually told my mother THAT.))

Lilly glanced upwards at the same time he was looking towards her. This time, though, she wouldn't look away. It seemed like he was thinking something she wanted to hear. She gave him a small smile, Caroline's advice going to the wind.

Caroline waved her hand at Dwayne. "Don't worry about it. I'm always going to be here to knock you down a few pegs...lovingly. I add lovingly. Very much lovingly. But the peg knocking yeah." She winked at him and then looked to Lilly. Hmmm...maybe she's a keeper. Or at least until Dwyane finds another keeper.
"Should I leave you two be?" She asked testing Dwyane...and half wondering if she should be so imposing with him.

Dwayne returned the smile. God, I'm such a bastard, he couldn't help but think. Here he was, sure that he wasn't going to break anymore hearts and there he was, starting the vicious cycle once more. No wonder Caroline made a point to scold him daily, at least whenever he was alone with a girl. Why didn't she just kick him while she had the chance? Being unconscious might make him less of a jerk.

Lilly looked down at her fingers, which had somehow managed to twist themselves together. Her face and neck were warm and obviously flushed. She leaned her back against the wall, daydreaming for a moment. She also secretly hoped that her brother wasn't around to see this. A talking to would definitely be coming her way later.
