"Ah I've done a little bit of college applications. Mostly what my parents have shoved at me. You know, you show got to Harvard! If not Harvard, how about Yale?! My parents are way excited about me going to college." She shook her head.
"Good luck with that." Joanne said when Caroline said she was going to kick her parents. "They'd actually have to be home first." The likeliness of Caroline actually going through with the threat was slim, but Joanne shook her head anyway.
"Ah yes. I tend to think in a round about way." She said with a laugh.

"Harvard? Yale?" Caroline asked as if they were planets far far away. "Wow...go Joanne. I'm proud of you. My girlfriend is smart," She sat up straight and giggled, frowning suddenly when Joanne mentioned her parents. "Maybe if they were excited about..." Then she shook her head, "Never mind."
Caroline sighed, "But they do deserve it. Then again, most parents are messed up. The whole human race is messed up but...I would hope that if you have a kid you'd be....better. Then again look at me. I'm sitting here waiting for my mother to drive over here, when she's probably swimming in gin."
Caroline winked at her, "Round about is good."

"Well, Harvard and Yale are ivy league schools yes, but I'd love to go to Emerson. It's a private college, but it is somewhere I've always wanted to go. My girlfriend is smart too, and she's artisic." She said with a smile.
"Yes I know most parents are very messed up. My parents are no exception. They aren't happy with the whole lesbian thing, but they haven't kicked me out or anything like that. I know that if I ever decide to have children they will not be treated like I was." When Caroline said her mother was probably swimming in gin, she glanced back at the school.
"Want me to take you home?" She asked. For Caroline she would skip out of her class.

Caroline had to smile widely. Joanne used the girlfriend term too. So that made it offical didn't it? Then it hit her. There would probably be no kissing anytime soon. Not if she was all red and bumpy for a while. Not exactly a turn on. Caroline tried to appear not too upset and smirked at Joanne. "You're very kind, but I think you beat me in the brains department hands down."
"Yeah...me either," Caroline said being impressed by Joanne's idea. She didn't know if Joanne would be the type to have kids. It was nice to know, not that she was going to run out and elope to Canada with her and adopt. Maybe later, but it was nice to know. "That's why I'm trying so hard with Jonas. Whether or not it pays off is the question."
"Oh..." Caroline looked around and then up at Joanne. "Are you sure? Don't you have some...importanty class to go to?" She asked.

"I disagree." Joanne teased, when Caroline said she was smarter. "I think everyone is equally smart for the most part, just in their own ways." She told her. "Like I am not very good at History, I get bored, but I have a friend who excels at History. We're just as smart as each other, just in different ways, ya know?" She adjusted her bag slightly, watching Caroline with a smile.
"I'm sure your brother is going to come out beautifully thanks to you." She assured her. When she was asked if she had some important class to go to she shook her head.
"Not really. At least nothing that my presence would be missed." She jingled her keys.

"That's my Joanne," Caroline said with a deep smile as she stood up. "Always being democractic. I suppose I'll have to take that as a worthy answer. And I guess it is right in some ways. But I would kill to have one type of brain instead of another. Would make life easier," She pointed out.
"Thanks," Caroline said blushing slightly. There really wasn't a bigger compliment that a person could give to her. None. "I hope you're right. Not the thanks to me...but growing up good. I just want the world for him."
Caroline put away her sketch pad and threw her backpack onto her back. "Okay then...thank you. So much. I could have waited but...this is nicer than waiting til the end of the day." She knew her mother, and she knew that the minute that she got off the phone with the school nurse she passed out.

Joanne smiled. "I think you'll have a lot to do with your brother's outcome though." She assured her. "From what you tell me, it'll be a lot of your doing." When Caroline accepted a ride, Joanne smiled, and adjusted her own bag. She fished out her car key and walked over putting her hand gently on Caroline's arm.
"Come on, I'll take you home. Unless of course you want me to stop somewhere first." She told her with a gentle smile. "Did you want something to eat?"

"I hope so..." Caroline said about to scratch at her arm but paused knowing that Joanne would glare at her. "I'm not the only one watching him. I mean my mom does sometimes and then my neighbor. I just worry about when I go to college. I don't think I could...you know go to school. I can't imagine leaving him alone for a week with her," She admitted. A small smile pushed it's way through to her face when Joanne's arm was placed on her arm.
"I'm kinda hungrey, but I could always eat at home...I don't want to make you a deliquant more than you already are," Caroline said with a wink.

"That must be rough on you." Joanne said sympathetically. "Is there a way you could try to go for custody of your brother once your 18?" She asked curiously. "I know a couple people who did that for their siblings." She shrugged lightly. "You could maybe look into it. I could help if you like." When Caroline said she was hungry and didn't want to make Joanne anymore of a deliquant she laughed.
"Oh yeah, lock up your daughters, Joanne Jefferson is out!" She giggled. "I'm kinda hungry as well though. I don't mind stopping if you want anything in particular, you are sick and all."

"Do you think I could?" Caroline asked. "I...I don't know. Would we still be able to live with my mother? I mean, she doesn't really work or anything, but we do get money through the state from her. I...I guess I could get a job and work on school. But then I would never be home for Jonas..." She shrugged feeling her chest starting to tighten up. "Thanks for the offer. I'll...I'll think about it."
Caroline laughed. "Well, in my case I guess it's the truth. But I'm happy I've been sprung loose," She winked at Joanne. "Oh no I don't mind either. And I'm ok, I'm just itchy. Very itchy and uncomfy. But I would rather be comfy and itchy with a full belly."

"You might." Joanne told her. when she asked about her mom Joanne bit her lip. "I don't know...like I said, I could help if you want. Think it over, if you decide it might be something you would like to pursue, I can do the leg work for you." She told her honestly. Joanne giggled when Caroline said she was happy to be sprung loose.
"Well your the sick one, you tell me what you want to eat." Joanne said with a warm smile. "The itchy person gets to pick lunch." She draped her arm around Caroline's shoulders. "The good news is you can only get chicken pox once, and if Jonas gets it now, it's probably better for him then if he were older."

Caroline looked over at Joanne wondering if she realized how much this meant to her. And how much she appreciated the effort. "Thank you," She said quietly although she knew that it wouldn't match how she felt in the least. "The leg work? Are you becoming a little lawyer already? I thought you had to go to law school for that," She teased.
Caroline laughed and then froze as Joanne wrapped her arm around her shoulders. "Oh umm...maybe Santa Fe would be nice?" She asked with a slightly nervous voice. Although it sounded nervous it was actually Caroline going weak at the knees. "That is good news...and I guess you're right. But...I don't know...maybe I could stay with him while I'm sick anyway. I just hate to see him sad. And I know he would be with this."

"It's called debate, Love." She said with a laugh. "I have to research to high heaven for some of my debates." She shook her head. "I once had to try and debate the pro-side of Segregation! What the hell? What was I suppose to say to that?" She shook her head.
"Ok, Santa Fe it is then." Joanne said with a smile. "Yeah, it would probably be better for Jonas to get it now. The older you are the more dangerous it can become, but I think that's more for grown ups. And I've never heard of anyone getting THAT sick from chicken pox."

"Really? That must have been really hard..." Caroline said shaking her head. "I think I would just call out, 'I'm an evil bigot' and then let out a cackle. Yeah, there's a reason that I'm not in Debate club."
"True..." Caroline said pulling her purse around her shoulder. "But then we'd have to take him to the doctors. And...money's tight as it is. I'm hoping that this is just going to go away magically. Jonas' bills from a few weeks ago when he just had a cold kinda wiped us out," She admitted with a frown.

Joanne shrugged "Yes, but screaming about how I'm a bigot and letting out a cackle might not be the wisest course of action." Joanne laughed. When Caroline said it involved going to the doctor she frowned.
"Most of the time if you know what it is, you don't...they can't really do to much for you when you have chicken pox." She shook her head a little. "All the doctor would do is tell you that it was chicken pox, and tell you not to scratch them."
