Benny led Tommy over to the bench he liked to call 'his'. It was positioned in such a way that, if you were so inclined to skip class, no one would be able to see you from the school. Sitting down, he looked over at his friend.
"You got something on your mind, Tommy?" He asked.

Tommy looked down at the bench and brushed off a few braches and leaves before sitting. He shrugged at his friend's question. "My mind is always ticking, Benny. You should know that by now," He said punching Benny lightly in the shoulder.
"So are you here to keep me company? Or do you just really wanna get out of second period?" Tommy asked with a deep smile, hoping to change the subject.

"Never can tell what's going on inside that head of yours," he said with a chuckle. "And there is nothing in the world I would rather do than keep you company!" Benny stated, with an elaborate flourish, "'Course, missing art class is a nice bonus, too."
Benny could tell that something was bothering his friend. He didn't want to force Tommy to say anything he didn't want to say, but at the same time...
"Seriously, though, Tommy," he began, gently. "You know you can always talk to me, if you need to." With that, Benny decided to change the subject; give Tommy an out, if he needed one. "You gonna try out for the team this year?" He had asked the same question every year since Tommy had quit. He knew what the answer would be, but it was all he could think of at the moment. Tommy's demeanour had thrown him off, and he found himself, for once, at a loss for words.

Tommy smirked. "And you wouldn't wanna know what was going on in my head. That's for sure. Might scar you for life. You'd never recover," He said looking away out onto the football field. "Poor Mr. Sung. He seems like a nice enough guy...and there you go...skipping his class...not like I should talk." Tommy was currently missing his favorite class.
When Benny said he'd always be there to talk to, Tommy simply said, "I know..." He perked up at the mention of the football team. Something else to talk about. "Nope. Sorry. It's too much work. And I feel bad for the guys on the side lines. Remember that one game freshman year I refused to go in...I wanted to give someone else a chance. I'd like it better that way...and I don't like spending all of my waking hours in the gym."

Benny smirked at the mention of Mr. Sung. "He'd be a lot nicer if he wasn't trying to teach me to paint. I mean, look at me. Do I look like an artist to you? Wait -" he held up a hand, "Don't answer that!"
Benny noticed how quickly Tommy latched on to the new topic, and decided to go with it for the moment. He'd find out what was wrong soon enough. "But somebody's gotta keep the benches warm, man!" He joked, "I mean, we could freeze our asses off out there in December!" He paused for a moment, thinking. "But Tommy, what about the cheerleaders, man? I'd join any team, any day, just for them." He leaned back a bit, lacing his fingers behind his head, disctracted momentarily by the thought of the cheerleading squad in their little outfits.

Tommy opened his mouth to speak and then laughed. "Fine I won't. But you are the one that will loose out. My words were going to be very special. Very favorable to you," He teased patting his shoulder. "But I do agree...the audacity of an Art teacher making you make...art." He continued to laugh to himself.
"Our school is rich enough that they could afford warmers or something. Knowing them, I wouldn't be suprised," Tommy said with a snort. It always seemed that the school could afford a whole re-do of the football field, but couldn't afford new Latin books. Tommy blushed slightly, "You can keep the cheerleaders, man. Then again, I'm pretty sure you do keep a few of them." He raised his brow at Benny.

"Your words are always special, Tommy," Benny replied, grinning, "And I'm glad someone finally understands how I feel about the whole art thing!" He winked at Tommy before smacking him on the back of the head. "Hey, it's not my fault no cheerleader can resist a hot football player!" Benny's eyes glazed over momentarily as he remembered some of his previous exploits with said cheerleaders. "I could set you up with one of them, you know. Unless of course you'd rather date Cathrine."

"Owwww..." Tommy said dramatically. "You're abusing me. Thanks a lot. I thought I was gonna get an action of encouragement not...excessive pain." He winked back at Benny to know that he was just kidding around.
Tommy groaned and leaned back as far as gravity would allow him. "Oh yeah, Catherine is at the top of my list. No thanks, man. I'm not really...in the mood?" He laughed at himself. "Wow that sounds horrible. I'll have to go spout some feminist rhetoric in the cafeteria to make up for that."

Benny pretended to ponder Tommy's words. "Encouragement...encouragement... hmm... How 'bout 'Problems are only opportunities with thorns on them'? I think I read that on a fortune cookie once." He laughed at himself and playfully nudged Tommy with his shoulder.
Hearing Tommy's feminist comment, Benny winced. "I wouldn't do that if I were you," he said, mock-seriously, "It might make Cathrine fall even harder for you than she already has!" Benny turned sideways on the bench and lay down, letting his legs hang over either side.

Tommy shook his head. "Fortune cookies? I never trust them. Did I ever tell you about the fortune cookie I got once that said 'You'll be a great lawyer.' Now where the hell did that come from. Someone must have been slacking off at the fortune cookie plant, I can tell you that much."
"Yeah right," Tommy snorted. "I don't think that girl even knows what feminisim is. She probably thinks it's a new fall color or something. And I'm pretty sure that at this point, she doesn't like me very much. But I can live with that." He grinned watching his friend lay down. "Making yourself comfortable huh?"

Shrugging, Benny replied "Don't know whether I trust 'em or not, but they are the most interesting part of the meal. Your fortune is almost as good as one I got once: 'you will get new clothes'. Well, thank you Mr. Fortune." He rolled his eyes, remembering.
Benny wiggled a little on the bench. "'Course I'm gonna make myself comfortable. And if Cathrine doesn't like you anymore, you're lucky. Give you more time to focus on more date-worthy girls. Got your eye on anyone in particular?" Tilting his head to look at Tommy, he let one hand absently pick at the grass, yanking out blades and tossing them aside.

"Well at least that one is true..." Tommy paused thinking for a moment. "Unless you get hit by a truck or something...or become a nudist. Then it might be off a bit." He smirked knowing that that both scenrios were not so likely. Tommy just liked to amuse himself.
Tommy frowned and shook his head. "Naw. I'm not crazy about the girls in this school. Well I like them...just you know...friend worthy. Nothing more." As he finished talking he realized that he might be throwing Benny a big hint. The question was if his friend would run with it. But Tommy doubted that he could...he didn't have any of the stereotypical gay tendencies. He wasn't feminine at all, he sneezed when flowers came around, he didn't have any hair to play with, and he didn't have a clue about fashion. "Nothing more," He repeated quietly.

Benny listened to Collins' scenarios with interest. "Nudist colony. Hmm. That could be a lot of fun, you know. I can think of a few people I'd like to invite with me..." He chuckled a bit at the thought.
Benny stopped picking at the grass, listening to his friend talk about the girls at school. "No one?" He asked in disbelief. "There's not one girl here you would go out with?" Benny thought about all the girls at the school. If Tommy couldn't find one that he liked... well, what the heck was he looking for? "Geez, maybe you should join me at the nudist colony. I'm sure you could find someone interesting there." He joked, grabbing a fistful of grass and tossing it at Tommy's face.

Tommy smirked. "Let me guess...I can see the headlines of the school newspaper now. The captain of the football team goes nude and invites some cheerleaders along the way," He chuckled at the idea. Frankly, Tommy didn't mind the idea either. Clothes were really just another way to hide. But then it might become just a bit obvious when he wasn't drooling over girl's bodies.
Tommy raised his arms to deflect the grass. "Jerk," He replied while smiling. "Killing mother nature. And no...there is no girl that I like. It's not unheard of you know? Actually not having a crush...though in this place those people may be few and far between. But no...no girls. And I'm not going to your nudist colony any time soon, Benny boy."

Benny was silent for a moment, taking in Tommy's statement, and enjoying the thought of it. After a moment, he sat up abruptly and shoved Tommy playfully. "You're so weird, Tommy!"
Benny sat quietly for a few seconds, looking thoughtfully at his friend. He knew Tommy well enough to know that he was still preoccupied with something. Nudging him softly, he asked "Are you ready to talk about it?"
