"Somehow," said Cathrine, eyes tearing up, "I don't think you are. Because, this is just what I deserve, isn't it?"

"No. This isn't what you deserve." Stevie replied. "What you deserve is an attitude check, and a mom to be there when you get home. Sadly your not getting that. And..I know how that feels." Stevie said, her arms hanging limply at her sides.

"And this is my attitude cheak, right?" she asked, bitterly. Oh, God...she told her mom not to go in the ice cream shop with her because she didn't want to be seen with her there with maybe her friends. That fact made her want to cry. But she wasn't...no right now, anyway.

"No. That's not an attitude check." She sighed. "Listen, no one deserves to have their family ripped away. It doesn't matter who you are, or what you've done, but sometimes it happens. Sometimes people are taken from you. Nothing you do deserves that."

Cathrine just sighed and slid down near a tree. She put her head in her hands...she didn't know what do to...she really didn't.
"If you hate me," was all she could ask, "THen why do you want to help me?"

"I don't hate you." Stevie said with a sigh. "I said I disliked you. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't help you. I can't bring your mom back, but I can offer you a ride, or even a place to stay if you need one. I really dislike, not liking people." She said with a slight smile. "So we can either go on disliking each other, or we can attempt to put it behind us."

"Seriously," said Cathrine with a sigh, "Right now...I don't know what to do...I really don't." She sighed and muttered, "And it could of all been avoided if I would've just let my mom come get ice cream with me."

"You don't know that." Stevie said softly. "You might have just been in the car with her then." She sat down across from the girl, sitting indian style. "Although, if she had been there, I probably would have icecream in my hair." She said in an attempt to lighten the mood a little.

Cathrine giggled softly. "Ya," she said, "I don't think I would've poured ice cream on you if my mom was there. I'm not THAT bad." She was feeling the weirdest feeling right now...she wanted to go home and cry herself to sleep, but she didn't want to face the fact that her mom wouldn't be there when she got home.

"Do you want me to take you home? I'm sure you dad needs you right now." She asked softly. "I don't have the nicest car in the world or anything, but it'll get you from point a to point b." She told her gently.

"Oh my God," said Cathrine, "Dad...ya, you're right." How could she frogot about him? He was probably so worried right now it wasn't even funny. "Sure," she said with a small smile to Stevie's offer.

"Ok, come on." She stood in one fluid movement and held out her hands to help Cathrine up. She lead her to her 1994 Acura and let her slid into the passenger seat. She knew the neighborhood she lived in, she had seen where the lights were.
"Here," She said pressing a piece of paper into the younger girls hand. "This is my phone number." She said "If you need anything, you can call me." She said kindly.

"Thanks," said Cathrine taking the peice of paper. She then looked at Stevie then back at the paper... "You're not worried I'll phrank call you?" she asked, giggling lightly. She then stared in wonder and asked, "Why are you being so nice to me when I dumped ice cream on you?"

Stevie turned into the street, after fastening her seatbelt. "No, I'm not worried you'll prank call me, I have caller ID." She said with a slightly smile. "Why am I being so nice to you?" She asked almost blankly. "Why wouldn't I be? Just because you made a really bad first impression doesn't mean I believe your that bad all the time. Besides you need someone, and you got me. Not the best arguement I'm sure, but it's something." She was quite for a moment.
"Which house is yours?" She asked entering the neighborhood.

"Oh," said Cathrine, giggling lightly, "Caller ID...it all makes sense now."
"Wow," said Cathrine softly, "That sounded pretty chessy...." she made a small smile and said, "But nice....I'd never do what you're doing in a thousand years."
She sighed and pointed to her house when she saw it.
