Benny looked at Cathrine as though she had just sprouted a second head. She was asking TOMMY out? On a DATE? The thought almost made him laugh out loud. The poor girl just couldn't take a hint. "Uh, yeah. I've been there. S'cool, I guess. But me 'n Tommy have work to do today."

Collins' tried not to choke on his intake of air. "Oh...well...I uh...uhh...." Then finally, Benny saved him. "Yeah..that history project. I mean we gotta work hard on that. My grades are kinda slipping and you know how it is Catherine." He said with a shrug. "Sorry...but I'm sure they'll be other guys at the Santa Fe."
Collins glanced over at Benny and gave him a look of thanks.

"Oh," said Cathrine with a pout, "Maybe tommorow," she said with a smile to Tommy, "Hu, Tommy?," she said flirtuously.

Benny could not believe that Cathrine was not giving up. "So Cathrine, you ready for the big math test tomorrow?" he asked, trying to change the subject as quickly as he could. "Or have you even had a chance to study, with all the shopping you have to do?" Shoot! He thought, I probably shouldn't have said that. He'd always had a bit of trouble with speaking before thinking.

Tommy let his jaw drop. What did he have to say to this girl? He glanced over at Benny and bit his lip hard trying not to laugh. That would be too mean. Tommy shook his head, he couldn't let Benny save him all the time. He leaned over and patted his friend's shoulder.
"Catherine...I'm sorry. I don't think we could really date in the future. You're just...not my type," He explained vaguely. It was the truth...without really saying it. In Tommy's opinion...that was the best type. "I'm sorry."

Benny smiled as Tommy attempted to let Cathrine down gently. Tommy was always so good at that kind of thing, and Benny had always wished he shared even a little of Tommy's... tact. He leaned over toward his friend and whispered "You're a lot nicer than I would be..."

Cathrine crossed her arms and glared at Tommy. Oh he did not just ditch her! No ONE ditched her!
"Oh," she said, "You did NOT just ditch me! In case you haven't heard, I'm the most popular girl in school and you may become and outcast for ditching me."

Tommy smiled gently at Benny's comment. Sure, Benny had a very bad habit of just blurting out whatever he was thinking...but Tommy was sure that Benny would have been kind enough.
"Wha..." Tommy muttered listening to Catherine. "I umm...I didn't ditch you. You asked me out and I said no thanks. It's nothing personal...but I don't care if you tell your friends that I'm a weirdo or something. It's just not my thing ok?" He asked hoping that she would just drop this.

"Ya," said Cathrine, "I asked and you said no; that's pretty much ditching." She heard Tommy's comments and giggled slightly, "Oh, you'd care all right...I could tell everyone your gay and that's why you ditched me," she said proudly with her hands on her hips.

Benny had had enough. No one messed with Tommy like that, at least not while Benny was around. "Look, Cathrine," he said, gritting his teeth, "Tommy said 'no'. If you think you can hurt his reputation just because you're popular, well, don't forget what I can do. I am captain of the football team. I'm sure the guys would be pretty interested in some of the things I've heard about you." Benny hadn't actually heard anything about her, but at this point, he was willing to make something up, just like what Cathrine was threatening to do to Tommy.
By this time, Benny was fuming, and he knew he had to stop himself before he said or did something he'd really regret. "C'mon, Tommy," he said through clenched teeth, "If she's not gonna take the hint and leave, let's get out of here,"

Tommy stared at Catherine in shock. Well...that would kill two birds with one stone. But I don't really think that would be the way I'd want to tell my friends... He was woken from his thoughts when Benny stood up to her. It made him feel better, that Benny would be there to support him. Protect him. But he had to wonder if Benny's temper would be flared when he learned that Catherine's possible rumor, wasn't so much of a rumor. Tommy looked back and forth between Benny and Catherine. Benny was right it was time to leave. A part of him wanted to say something to Catherine...but he knew he's only put his foot in his mouth. "Okay," He said simply to Benny. With a deep breath, he walked away. "Thanks..." Tommy said quietly. "For that..." [OOC: Where did you want to go? ]

Benny draped an arm over Tommy's shoulders. "Any time man," he said, "That girl was pissing me off!" He laughed and began steering Tommy toward the back of the school. "C'mon. We still got time before third period starts. Let's go sit for a bit."
After a few steps, Benny turned toward his friend. "Hey man, don't worry about what Cathrine said. I mean, even if she did tell everyone you're gay, who would believe her?" He chucked a bit at the thought as the two boys continued on their way to the track. It was always deserted in the mornings, and it was one of Benny's favourite places to go when he needed to get away from...people.

"Yeah," Tommy said with a slight smile. "She has...an interesting way about her doesn't she? If I wasn't so much of a gentleman I would have scootted off earlier...but you know me. I gotta stay classy," He teased. Even though he was joking, it really was a part of him. To be nice to everyone...that is of course, until they open their stupid mouths and say something...well...stupid. Tommy gulped at Benny's words. "Yeah...who'd believe that," He said quietly to himself. Maybe this wasn't the time or place to...discuss such things. But a part of Tommy knew that he had to say it, get it off his chest. The other part also knew that whole aspect of social suicide. And maybe...loosing some of his friends. [out- Track. OCC: Sounds good to me ]

Cathrine stood there, mouth agape. How dare that Benny ruin her chance at a date. It was none of his buissness who she dated; and here he was pressuring Tommy not to go out with her. Ya, that had to be the reason...who wouldn't want to go out with her? What was that Benny, obsessed with Tommy or something?
She smirked evilly as she thought that. Well, he is NOW.. She thought and grinned evilly. Not only would she spread a rumor about Tommy being gay...Benny was now too...and they were both deeply in love. With an evil laugh, she went in the school to the hallway; she had some planning to do.
