Eric blushed a bit when she mentioned ulterior motives. The truth was, usually he did have an ulterior motive. But here, with Lilia, he didn't. Sure, he would love to date her, but he found that he would be just as happy if they could be friends, even just running buddies. Whatever, as long as he could spend time with her. "Hey," he said, gently, "Don't be upset. I'm the one moving too fast. We can take things as slow as you want. Or not at all if you don't want. It's okay."
"You like to read, huh?" he asked, "I'll have to take you to Twice Told Tales sometime. That place must have every book ever written. It's packed to the rafters!" He was exaggerating a bit, but it did have a lot of books.
Eric nodded as she talked about watching her brother. "I had to watch Grant - that's my brother - all the time, too. My Dad left and Mom had to take two jobs, so that left me to take care of him. He's a good kid, though. I didn't mind." He looked at her questioningly, "What kind of work does your Mom do?"

Lilia smiled. "Okay." She was relieved that Eric didn't hate her.
"That place sounds great. I'll have to see it some time. I've been looking for this one book forever, and no one seems to have it," Lilia replied. She smiled again. Eric was so sweet.
"Yeah. Dylan's great... I just had to miss out on a lot of stuff because of him," Lilia replied. "My mom runs her own company. She makes accessories and stuff like that."

After they had dropped Dylan of at home and Lilia had changed, Eric headed back toward 'downtown'. They had stopped to get an ice cream, and popped into the bookstore - Lilia had found that elusive book, but Eric hadn't paid much attention to the title, he'd been to busy admiring her smile.
"It's getting late," he said, as they drove aimlessly down the Scarsdale streets. "You wanna go for a run now?"

"That sounds great," Lilia said, smiling. Her day had turned out a lot better than she had planned. Now if she could just make it through her run with Eric without screwing things up royally, everything would be great.

Eric turned the car around, heading back toward the school. The track was the best place to run, as it was the only well-lit area in town. He pulled the car into a parking spot near the track, turned off the engine and got out, heading for the track.
