Kat bounced her foot in time to the music blasting into her ears, an empty ice cream dish a hand's reach away from her. She sat outside at one of the array of tables outside the ice cream place, absorbed in the book she was reading for the moment, swaying in time to Neil Diamond. Classic rock was probably her favorite music. She'd finally been able to escape her house, her sisters' incessant chattering driving her utterly insane. She needed solitude, sugar, and Neil. She'd been on a thing lately where all she'd listen to was Neil Diamond, and she'd all but worn out her Hot August Night album.
She glanced up as she finished Pride and Prejudice for what had to be the tenth time, sighing softly. No one was around. She was bored now, abnormally wanting someone to talk to. Turning off her CD player, she tucked it back in her purse and stretched out her legs, deciding she'd just sit for awhile and see if anybody came by. It wasn't often she had the desire to willingly be around people; she didn't want it to pass before she'd talked to someone.

Joanne hummed happily to herself. Her parents had announced the night prior they were going on another trip. The last one a bust and had almost ruined any chance she had with Caroline, not that she was sure she had one to begin with. She paused outside of Smitty's. Ice cream could be good right now.

Kat perked up as someone walked by, pausing as they came close to Smitty's. She sat for a moment, then decided she'd ahve to go beyond just sociable and go out on a limb. She waved a bit to, hopefully, get the girl's attention. "Hey!" she called just for good measure. "I know this is going to sound really weird, and you'll probably think I'm a lunatic, but I'm incredibly bored and in one of my rare sociable moods. Would you be at all interested in sitting and talking?"

Joanne was startled, but glanced over. The girl looked vaguely familiar. After a moments though, Joanne smiled. "Sure. give me one second to get some ice cream." She journeyed into Smitty's and got a small cone. Returning back outside, she crossed over and slid into the chair across from her.
"Do you go to Scarsdale?" She asked. "You look sorta familiar. I'm Joanne by the way."

Kat smiled, settling back down in her seat. She crossed her legs in the chair before Joanne came back out. Smiling, she nodded in response to her question. "Yeah, I do. Sophomore. And I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you go to Scarsdale too? I'm Kat."

"Yeah, I'm a Junior there." Joanne replied. "It's nice to meet you Kat." Joanne said, sticking her hand out to shake the other girls. She noticed, her ice cream trickling slightly and began to try and work it down to a more manageable size. She paused to work down her ice cream. "Sorry, ice cream melts far to quickly."

Kat nodded, smiling agian. "I thought you looked kinda familiar. Probably passed in the halls or something." She reached out and shook Joanne's hand, chuckling a bit at the apology. "No worries. It really does. Someone needs to invent something that'll keep ice cream from melting so fast. They'd make gobs of money."

When Kat shook her hand and said she looked familiar she nodded. "Yeah, that happens a lot in this town apparently." She smiled. "And Smitty's has the best ice cream in my opinion." She laughed. When Kat said someone should invite slow melting ice cream, she grinned.
"I know." Joanne agreed. "Imagine the money someone could make! Between that and the cure for cold. Wow." She shook her head. She managed to get her ice cream to the point where it wasn't melting anymore.
"So Kat, what are you doing sitting out here all alone?" She questioned.

Kat nodded, smiling. "Yeah, I guess it does. Bound to happen in a small town, though." She laughed a bit, nodding again. "You're right there.Smitty's is some good stuff." Her smile brightened at Joanne's comments and she nodded again. "Exactly! So many simple little things that no one bothers to pay attention to." She rolled her eyes, hugging her knees to her chest. Shrugging, she replied, "Escaping home. It's utter chaos over there, and I needed a break."

"I hear ya." Joanne agreed. "I'm trying to stay out until my parents leave. Then I'll go back." She shrugged. "Hope it'll calm down for you." Joanne said gently. "I know it can be rough sometimes with your folks. Mine don't always get along, and I must admit I vary between missing them and resenting them. When their home they drive me up the wall, but when their gone, I resent that I'm alone." She shrugged. She glanced at her wrist watch and frowned.
"Oh goodness I'm so sorry but I need to go. I was suppose to meet my gran about ten minutes ago." She gave Kat a sweet smile. "I'll see you around school!" She waved and then she was gone.
((Joanne out to somewhere))
