Why was this book so hard to find? Adair had looked almost everywhere for Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck. Borrowing it from the library wasn't enough for her. She wanted to be able to get it any time without the possibility that it might not be available.
She searched the shelves, looking for anything by Steinbeck, so she could go from there.

At last, the teenager let out a squeal, grabbing the book and scurrying up to the register. The price was 3.25, and she quickly produced the money. Just because she was feeling generous, she gave the cashier a tip and grabbed the book. With a very excited "thank you", Adair scurried out the door without waiting for a receipt or even a bag.
