Caroline could not stop scratching. All throughout Latin when she was supposed to be translating some politician from Rome, she was scratching her arm. And the area was turning redder and redder. All Caroline could do was hope and pray that it wasn't the chicken pox. Somehow she missed it when she was a kid. But now, a few very suspicious looking spots were appearing. After class, she headed right for the nurse's office and took a seat in the waiting room. There was always a long wait. Just too many kids were faking it, it was frustrating for the few that were really sick.
"But I'm not sick," Caroline convinced herself. "I'm not."

Lilly's forehead had felt warm all morning. She was crossing her fingers that it was just because she was nervous, for two reasons: she didn't want to miss her date with Dwayne, and she didn't want to make him sick. Or anybody else, for that matter. But she didn't want to miss art, either, and she wanted to get to the office sooner. She needed some reassurance. Instead of taking it slow, she began sprinting down the hallway. You don't have a fever! No! You'll go on your date and everything will be fine...
Lilly turned into the nurses office, still thinking to herself. Suddenly, she collided with something solid and looked up. "Oh, Caroline, hey. Sorry about that. Didn't mean to...you know. Whack you with my torso."

Caroline jumped as someone ran into her. When she turned to see who it was she waved her hand at her best friend's girlfriend. "No worries. I could use a good...torso whack everyonce in a while..." She said slowly as she wandering what was going on in her head. Maybe the chicken pox was messing up her brain. But no. She wasn't sick. She was just...itchy.
"So what are you in for?" She asked looking at Lilly. "You do look...kinda pale," She admitted with a slight frown. "Or is that just foundation with a mix of good acting?"

"Good, I'll keep that in mind. Torso whacks for Caroline. Got it." Lilly laughed somewhat awkwardly, feeling her forearms for any abnormal heat. So far it didn't seem too much warmer than normal- just a little bit. She blew cold air, hoping it would take her temperature down to, oh, say ninety-five or so.
"Oh, I wish that was what it was. I wouldn't mind missing French. But I think I have a fever, and I'm really hoping that's not what it is. I kind of have...well, I have a date today and I don't feel like missing it." Lilly eyed Caroline suspiciously, noticing her reddened arms. "I could ask you the same question."

Caroline just giggle. Lilly was pretty cool if anyone had to date her best friend then she would be the perfect choice. "I would appreciate it if you did."
"Oh gosh..." Caroline leaned over and touched Lilly's forehead, when she realized that what she had she could spread, she pulled away. "Oh sorry. But yeah you are warm. Dwayne would be fine with it I'm sure. He could always bring you chicken noodle soup. Or at least try." She smiled and then looked down at her arms. "Yeah, I never had chicken pox, and I'm worried...you've had it haven't you?"

"I'll write it on my calendar. How does next Thursday sound?" Lilly laughed as well, this time feeling less awkward. Caroline was pretty fun. And...not freaked out by the idea of a scheduled torso whack, whatever that was.
"Awwww, that sounds cute. But I'm not so sure he would want me lying in the grass at the park in the middle of the night, which is kind of what I would like to be doing." Lilly frowned a little at the thought of actually being sick. "And don't worry- I had the chicken pox when I was four. If that's what you've got, I would go buy extra socks. They're good to keep on you hands to stop you from itching. Sounds really weird, but....it works."

Caroline giggled and shrugged. "I don't think I have anything planned, but if things change then I will let you know," She said patting Lilly's shoulder.
"Oh really?" Caroline asked with a frown. "Yeah that could be more...difficult than romantic. Don't worry about it. I'm sure that you'll have plenty of romantic nights if not tonight. I'll poke Dwayne to make sure it happens," She nodded slowly. "Socks on your hands? Apparently life becomes backwards when you get the chicken pox huh?" She asked in a slight whine.

"Okay! I'll make a note just in case. Thanks for the heads up." Lilly winked.
"Yeah, really. It helps to stop you from...well, causing scars. Cause you know...scars aren't always the best thing. Like...picking scabs when you're a kid? It comes back full throttle when you've got chicken pox. Seriously, Cindy got em this one time when she was about seventeen...and she tried to cover it up with foundation..." Lilly laughed for a minute. "Sorry. You've got em now. But she was really funny about it. Anyway- socks equal good."

Caroline giggled, "You're welcome."
"Scars?" Caroline asked with a slight whimper. "Ok I'm offically hoping that it's just a rash or poision ivy or something. Though I don't think I've come into contact with any plants lately...a fern, but I'm pretty sure that it was legit." She gulped and then sighed, "It's ok...just as long as my brother doesn't start laughing at me because I'm speckled. Knowing him, I wouldn't be surprised. Yeah, I'll have to find me some socks..." She wondered for a moment if Joanne had it before. Would she have to stay away from her? Caroline frowned even more.

"So..." Lilly said, finally finding herself at a lost for any intelligent (or torso-related) conversation, "how about this line?"
"I'm sure it's not going to be a big deal. Do you know if you might have an allergy? I was given this one medicine once that made me all red and itchy. It was for a sore throat or something and it gave me bumps instead of treating my problem. I can't get it anymore. I need different special medicine...not, you know, like 'special' medicine, but...just when I get sick." Lilly laughed again, but it was more awkward this time. "...yeah."

"It's longish," Caroline nodded with a sigh. "If only we could make two lines. The really sick people and the not so sick but wanna get out of class people. That would make like simplier." She started to scratch at her arm despite Lilly's warnings. She just couldn't help it!
Caroline shook her head, "None that I know about. I mean, dust makes me sneeze, but doesn't that happen to everyone?" She frowned at Lilly's description of her reaction to the medicine, "Wow...I'm sorry. That must have sucked majorly." She grinned and nodded, "I get you, no worries..."She looked up at the line. Still not moving. Was this the best friend/girlfriend uncomfortableness? Maybe she should bring up the whole family issue with her. But would that be being..."nosey."
Caroline cleared her throat. "So...you have lots of siblings...that's gotta be fun." Ok that was a horrible conversation topic.

"Two lines might help, but I'm pretty sure there's only one nurse. I guess this is what fall to winter weather does to all of us. It either makes us sick or antsy to get home." Lilly shrugged. She saw Caroline scratching, but didn't say anything about it. It was hard to resist the itch!
"Eh, nah, it was okay. Again, I just have to take different meds now. It's not a big deal." The line just seemed to get longer in front of them. "And lots of siblings? Try two. And one's at college, and one will be at college next year...it'll be just me and mom and dad...fun fun fun." Lilly made a face at the thought of it. "It's more fun with Mark around, so I guess it's a little fun."

Caroline nodded slowly. "I don't know about you, but I'm ready for the snow. And of course the snow days. My brother was too little since the last snowfall. I can't wait to show it to him." She grinned at the thought.
"Oh that's good. As long as you can still get...healthy and all," Caroline said with an awkward grin. "Well that's a lot to me. Oh being the baby huh? I guess it's not as peachy keen as people say it is huh?" Caroline asked as she pulled her hand away from her arm. It was starting to burn now. "You close with your brother then?"

"The snow's okay, but I think I'll miss all the rain we get. Rain's slightly more fun. It doesn't turn your toes purple." Lilly smiled as well. "Little kids are cute."
"Yeah, not as good." She looked over and noticed Caroline's arm. "Oooh, yeah, that does look bad. Anyway, I am pretty close with Mark. It's gonna be too bad when he leaves next year. I'm gonna miss him."

Caroline nodded, "That's true. But you can't form rain into odd shapes and attempts of humans. But I guess you like playing in puddles more....I mean, when you were younger you liked to play in puddles." Caroline didn't admit to everyone that she still played in the snow. And the rain, when she got the chance.
Caroline frowned, "Oh peachy..." She knew that if she was sick, she'd have to stear clear of Jonas. That would be...difficult. "I'm sure you'll keep in touch. Letters, internet, you know of the like. Where is he going next year? Has he decided yet?" She asked. "The whole idea of college is kinda scary to me now, but I guess we got time right?"
