"Yeah, I still play in puddles. And that whole 'catch the raindrops on your tongue' thing. I practically live for that. The only good thing about snow that I can think of right now is that you can chuck it at people and it melts. Good stuff."
Lilly nodded. "Yeah, it might be contagious. That would be pretty bad...you have a younger brother, right? Wouldn't want him to catch it." She shrugged at Caroline's latter comment. "We probably will. I think he was looking at New York University and Brown...maybe New York College. I don't think he wants to go too far away. At least, I hope he doesn't. It would be great if he could go to Brown. I hear that's a really good school."

Caroline giggled as she imagined Lilly playing in puddles. "I think you just won some cool points with me for that," She said with a smile. "And you can also make things with snow. Snow men, snow forts. When it snows I'll have to come over and explain the wonders of snow."
"Yeah I do," Caroline frowned. "Crap..." She sat down into a chair hard, "I really can't be sick." Caroline didn't hear much more of what Lilly was saying but she smiled and nodded all of the same. She knew it wasn't so polite, but she had to think about Jonas now. What could she do? The neighbors were getting sick of him and her mother...well she was just as helpful as ever. Maybe Dwayne...she rubbed her forehead.

"Oooh, yay. Cool points. I'll keep a tab and every time I get some I'll mark them down." Lilly laughed as well. Caroline was pretty cool herself. No wonder Dwayne liked her. "I'll put it on my calendar with the torso whacks: Caroline, first snow."
Lilly pursed her lips for a minute. "If it's really chicken pox, you might be better off bringing him somewhere. Or you could let him get it. You know, get a huge tub of calamine lotion and bathe in it. Actually no. That wouldn't be too fun. But, um...I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind having him around, if worse came to worst. She loves kids. She gets pissed at Mark and me sometimes cause we're not little anymore."

Caroline grinned. "Wow, I'm excited about this now. I'll have to keep track myself." She giggled to herself. It was nice that she could be goofy with Lilly, like they were friends, not just connected through Dwayne. That was very nice. "Oh I'm so glad," She laughed louder this time.
Caroline raised her brow. "Calamine lotion? Isn't that not...free?" She asked knowing that if it wasn't, it was probably out of her league. "Wait...are...are you sure?" Caroline asked her with wide eyes. Was Lilly really offering to watch Jonas? If she was, Caroline knew that she had to call Dwayne and force him to marry her right away.

"You should come over sometime and we'll make a huge chart for cool points. Get out some bright colored Sharpies and just go to town on it. I'll even pull out my silver marker. It only comes out for special occasions, you know. And school projects." Lilly had totally forgotten about her fever at this point. And the line, too.
"Well...it's not free, but it's not really expensive either...And yeah, I'm totally sure. I mean, I have nothing to do anyway, and neither does my mom. She doesn't work. I'm sure she'd be thrilled. Dad'll roll his eyes, but if we keep him in the spare room or something he wouldn't mind. And my mom would let him in whether my dad wanted it or not, so...yeah." Lilly nodded. "If that's really what it is, we wouldn't mind taking him in for a few days."

"Ohhh...your silver marker?" Caroline asked with raised brows. "Well I must say that I'm impressed and excited about it. We defintely should." She smiled deeply loving the idea of being an actual friend with Lilly, instead of being in that boyfriend's friend limbo.
"I'll check it out at least. Anything to make the itching stop...within reason, of course," Caroline mumbled as she stuck her hand in her pocket to stop her from scracthing. "Lilly..." Caroline was lost for words at first, "You have no idea how much that would mean to me. Like beyond...cool points. Somewhere in the cosmos..." She looked down at her feet and then said, "I'll let you know okay? And really...thank you."

Lilly grinned. Caroline was definitely worth talking to more often. "Well most definitely my silver marker. And we definitely should. You ever notice how fun the word 'definitely' is to say? The only problem with it is that I can never remember how it's spelled. It's like...de...fine...ight."
Lilly smiled weakly. "Hey, don't worry about it. Sometimes you gotta help people, you know? And I want to help you out."

Caroline laughed and nodded. "I did wonder if that was just me or not. Good to know I'm not alone. But you're right, fun word. I'm overly fond of the world presumptious myself. But yeah...spelling is kinda an issue with that one as well."
Caroline opened her mouth to thank her again, but she knew that the way that Lilly was talking...it just wasn't a big deal for her. She just smiled and nodded. "And you rock for that. Hopefully it won't come to that...but I'll let you know."

"Presumptuous? That's a good one. I've always liked 'delicious' too. And also 'exuberant'. They're both pretty fun. And it's gonna sound really dorky, but...I love spelling. I even watch those contests that they have on TV."
Lilly nodded. "Hopefully it won't...but I'm here if you need me."

"Oh, exuberant. Nice. That's a real nice one," Caroline said with giggle. She wondered if some English teacher was hiding behind them and clapping for joy. "Oh really? Spelling huh? Were you one of those wiz kids yourself? Taking all of the Scarsdale spelling bees?" She asked not finding Lilly's love dorky at all.
"Thanks...really..." Caroline lifted up her head when she saw that the line was moving. "That's a good sign."

"When I was a kid. You know, the teacher made you line up against the wall and made you spell stuff. Like, spell "perpendicular". That was loads of fun. And totally not embarrassing at all." Lilly rolled her eyes.
"Hey yeah!" Lilly exclaimed when she saw the line. "Maybe I'll get to miss all of French and none of Art. Good stuff."

"Really?" Caroline asked with wide eyes not sure if she was teasing or not. Well, she was pretty sure that she wasn't teasing. "That's...wow. I saw that like...I was about to be shot! But hey, if you loved it, then that's good. At least someone wasn't traumatized."
"Not fond of French?" Caroline questioned with a smirk. "That's why I'm in Latin. I hate actually speaking new languages. But writing it, I can do that."

"Eh. Could be fun, could be not fun. It all depended on the word. Like if it was easy and you messed up...you felt like a total moron. And by you I mean me."
Lilly laughed. "French is okay. It's just gotten really monotonous lately. I'm feeling a little bored with it."

Caroline giggled and shook her head. "Those were the ones I messed up on. When I was in grade school, I think my big one was mouse. Yeah, and they wonder why I don't like the rodents..." She teased, she was pretty fond of rodents. "And you're not a moron," She said with a nod.
"Ah I get you," Caroline said. "Frankly I'm bored with high school. I just can't wait til college."

"Usually I'm not. But when you spell the word 'bicycle' wrong you kind of feel stupid. Like really stupid." Lilly looked at Caroline confusedly. "Really? I pegged you as a rodent person. Not like...you're a rodent, but that you don't mind mice. Ah, just screw it."
"Mmmhm. I can't wait until I go to college. I can hold off for awhile until Dwayne goes to college, though. Wouldn't mind if he stuck around a little longer."
