Benny snickered at the thought of this small girl kicking anyone's ass. He just couldn't picture it. Especially since she was Mark's sister. "I'm sure you would have," he replied, sarcastically.

"Hey! I totally would! You can ask Mark, I broke my dad's nose once."

Benny's laughing stopped as soon as he heard Lilly's last remark. "Now there's a story I have got to hear! Mark never told me any stories like that about you!"

Lilly looked up and wrote down the answers to the vocabulary on her paper, checking them on the board. "I got pissed that he yelled at my mom and I punched him in the face."

Benny noticed Lilly completing their assignment and realized he had better start doing the same. He didn't want to have to finish it for homework. "Wow." was all he could say in response to her explanation. He knew there had to be more to it than that, and made a mental note to ask Mark about it.
"So," he said, trying to continue the conversation, enjoying the distraction from his problems. "You don't like jocks then, eh? What about me?"

Lilly didn't look at him. "You haven't called me a bitch or a lesbian yet so I think you're okay..." She continued scrawling her answers down on her paper.

Benny simply nodded at this, scribbling away at his verbs. He didn't need much time to finish - he knew all his verbs like the back of his hand. When he was finished, he leaned forward to look over Lilly's shoulder at her sheet. "Pourrions... pourriez..." he whispered to her, trying to throw her off.

Lilly turned her head over her shoulder to look at him. "Hey!" she whispered back, a smirk crossing her face. She took her pencil and scribbled little hearts and flowers all over the top of it. "That's what you get, Benjamin Coffin."

"Damn, girl!" he said, laughing, "Are you trying to make people think I'm gay?" He began furiously erasing the hearts and flowers, hoping no one had seen. "Seems like that's what everyone is trying to do," he muttered under his breath.

Lilly covered her mouth, her smirk growing. "Are you *trying* to make me fail this assignment? And no, I know you're not gay. I can tell by your mannerisms. The way you hold your pencil isn't gay. I can tell. Not that I mind, anyway."

Benny grinned at Lilly. "As a matter of fact, I am." When she began talking about being able to tell when someone is gay, he immediately dropped his eyes to the floor, slouching a little in his chair. "Oh yeah?" he asked, trying not to sound too interested, "Anyone in particular that you know who holds his pencil in a 'gay' way?"

Lilly's eyes narrowed. "Unless they were flamingly flamboyant, I wouldn't tell you. That's not something I would spread around."

Benny's head shot up and he looked at Lilly. "I think I love you," He blurted out, before he had a chance to think about what he was saying. He blushed and looked away again. "Sorry," he said quickly, "It's been a long day. And it's only third period... I'm just happy to hear that there is someone in this place who isn't out to make everyone else's life miserable." He knew he was exaggerating, but at this point, that's exactly how he felt. He sighed and began absently running his eraser over the spot on his paper where Lilly had drawn, even though you could no longer see the doodles.

Lilly raised an eyebrow. "You're weird, Benny. But that's okay with me."

Benny laughed at her comment. "Yeah, so they say," he replied. "So, you finished those stupid verbs? I swear this guy gives the same work every year!"
