Eric followed Lilia into the classroom, frowning when he saw the teacher. Miss Dale. God how he loathed her. Never gave him good marks. Sighing, he found two empty seats and placed Lilia's books on one, sitting in the other. "Watch out for Dale," he whispered, "She's a real hard ass."
Pulling his notebook ou of his backpack, Eric turned back to Lilia and asked, "What's wrong with him, if you don't mind my asking?" he didn't want to be nosy, but he was curious.

"Thanks for the warning," Lilia responded. She opened one of her notebooks and wrote the subject across the top of the page.
Lilia bit her lip at Eric's question. "He's just... a lot like my real dad. And I never got along with him, either," she replied. She pushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear. This was not a conversation she really wanted to have with someone she'd just met.

Eric watched her prepare her notebook for class. She looked like someone who would maybe be able to 'help' him with his math. He needed to pass it this time. There was no way he was going to come back to this school next year.
Sensing her discomfort, Eric quickly changed the subject. "So how long have you been here? Maybe I could give you a tour of the town sometime. Not much to it, but I can show you some hot spots." He smiled, thinking of some of the places he'd like to show her.

"About a week," she replied. "I'd really like that. All I've done since we got here is unpack." She smiled over at Eric, hoping that she'd found a new friend.

Eric grinned at his luck. He couldn't wait to take this girl out. "Great! What about today after school? If that's too soon for you, we could try, say, Friday night?"
Miss Dale walked down the rows passing out the course outline to each student. Pausing at Eric's desk, she said, "Eric, nice to see you again," before moving on down the row.
Eric plastered a smile on his face as the teacher passed. Looking down at the course outline, he groaned. Passing this class was not going to be easy.

Lilia smiled. "After school sounds great. I just have to drop my brother off at home first," Lilia replied.
She closed her mouth as the teacher walked by, passing out the course outline. She raised an eyebrow at the teacher's comment to Eric.
"I take it you aren't actually a sophomore?" Lilia asked, before turning to look at the syllabus in her hands. It appeared to be very similar to the math class she had taken at her old school the year before.

Eric's gin broadened. "Good," he said, "We can take my car. We'll drop your brother off on the way."
His grin faded at Lilia's question. "No," he said, a bit embarrassed to admit this to her, "I'm actually a senior. Math's not my best subject, is all."
Wanting to change the subject as quicky as possible, he asked, "Your brother go to Scarsdale, too?"

"Mine either. I'd much rather be sitting in Spanish right now. Or even French," Lilia replied. She laughed a little at Eric's question.
"No, my brother's still in elementary school. My parents waited a long time between kids," Lilia replied. She jotted down some notes as the teacher talked before continuing the conversation. Math was boring, anyway.
"So, what about you? Any siblings?"

Eric chuckled. "I got out of the languages as soon as I could. To be honest, I wouldn't even be in this class if I didn't have to pass it to graduate. I'm more into sports, anyway. You play any?"
Seeing Lilia writing, he decided to jot down some notes as well, though he didn't really pay attention to what he was doing. "I have a brother, too. He's in middle school, eigth grade."

Lilia rolled her eyes. "Me? Sports? Never. I'm too uncoordinated for that," she replied. "What do you play?" She wrote down a couple more lines and sighed, realizing that she already knew what the teacher was talking about; she'd learned all of this the year before.

Eric smiled at her. She really was cute. "I think the better question might be what don't I play," he said, "I do baseball, Lacrosse, hockey, basketball, soccer, football, rugby... You name it I'm sure I've done it," he finished with a laugh.
Looking at Lilia's page again, he grimaced a bit. "Seems to me that you're gonna do a lot better than me in this class," he said, looking at the mess that was his notes. "I might have to get you to tutor me!" he declared with a wink.

"Impressive," Lilia said after listening to his laundry list of sports.
"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do fine. It really isn't too hard, once you get the basics," Lilia replied, glancing over at his notes. "Although it would be helpful if you could actually read whatever that is you were writing in your notebook," she teased. She was really beginning to like this guy.
"I guess I could tutor you... but I think you'd have to do something for me in return," Lilia said, smiling. "I'm desperate for a running partner... I haven't been since we moved, and it's driving me crazy."

Looking back down at his notes, Eric shrugged. "I suppose you're right," he said, tearing the page out of his notebook, balling it up and tossing it into the trash can near his desk.
Eric pretended to look shocked, "And there I thought you were about to proposition me!" he exclaimed. Not that that would have been a bad thing, he thought to himself. "Sure, I'll run with you. I'm usually up early for practice anyway."

Lilia laughed at Eric's joke. "Sorry... I didn't mean for it to come out that way. I usually go running about nine, if you'd like to go tonight." She wrote down a few more lines and sighed.
"I'm so ready for this day to be over. I'm definitely excited about learning my way around town." She smiled at Eric as the bell rang. "And we are officially one class closer to that wonderful event."

"Love to go running with you tonight." he said. Anything to be able to spend time with her, he thought.
Gathering his things and standing up, he turned back to Lilia, a genuine smile on his face. "Thanks for making math more tolerable," he said, "I may just survive it now!" he winked. "Where do you want to meet after school?" he asked.
