Angel nodded, keeping his eyes straight ahead. Was Tommy even talking about football anymore? It was hard to tell...maybe he was, and it was one of those 'team sports prepare you for life' speeches no one really listened to. But...for some reason, Angel could just tell it was more than that.
"Oh yeah, it's fine...happens to me all the time," Angel added with a slight laugh, grinning at the taller boy.

"In the back of Miss Dale's math class I bet," Tommy said with a wide grin. "I don't think there is a kid on campus who hasn't taken a snooze in that woman's class. It was kinda nice though. You'd know that you'd have a nap built into your day." He chuckled to himself and coughed lightly. "Do you mind if we go a bit slower?"

"You're a mind reader," Angel replied with a laugh, nodding his head. She was a nice woman, just...dry. Very very dry. Angel liked her fine, and math wasn't a bad thing to get really into...he just couldn't understand how you could get so excited by pi. "Yeah, that's a nice bonus...I swear sometimes she's got eyes on every wall, though. I need to learn to sleep with my eyes open," he laughed again.
"Yeah of course...you okay?" Angel asked as he slowed his pace to a fast walk. "If Lorretti asks we'll say we're just taking a break."

Tommy chuckled and sighed. "Man...she really does. I remember one time I passed a note to my friend Maureen and she was looking away at the time. And literally, the moment Mo gets her hand on it, Miss Dale's head like does a 360 and calls out our names. Thought I was gonna have a heart attack right there," He shook his head wondering how teachers did it. One thing was for sure, he didn't have the patience.
"Sleeping with your eyes open really? Let me know how that goes." He grinned. "That would be quiet a talent to have. Go into a job and just sleep all day. Sounds nice to me."
"Oh yeah, I'm fine," Tommy replied waving his hand. "Thanks. Just not in shape."

"Good to know she hasn't changed," Angel said with a laugh, his fingers moving against his leg in a random beat as they walked. "Well, then, I promise, as soon as I perfect it you'll be the first one I teach," he grinned.
"Was football your only sport?" Angel asked Tommy as he slowed down a bit more.

"Thanks, Angel," Tommy chuckled. "I'll be waiting so you better get back to me...." He looked down at Angel's legs and once again noticed how...nice they were. "You got a song in your head or something?" He asked pointing to the younger boy's hands there were keeping a rhythm.
Tommy nodded slowly. "Yep. I did little league when I was young...but I kinda refused to run the bases. You can see how my love for running has transferred into todays activity," He pointed out. Then he cleared his throat and realized that he'd done way too much talking...and he wanted to get to know this guy more. He had to be something special if he could listen so well. Most guys would ignore you. Smile and nod. But usually ignore you. But Angel...Tommy could tell he was actually listening, and caring. "So...you play any sport here? Into any clubs on campus?"

"Sometimes...it's mostly just habit," Angel admitted, stretching out his fingers a few times with a small grin. Ever since he'd started playing drums, he'd found the small habit getting stronger and stronger. More often than not he;d be doing it without even realizing, just tapping some ssmall rythm against any surface available.
"No sports...no sports," Angel said with a laugh, shaking his head. "The art club...and the prayer club," he added after a pause. It was a public school, so it wasn't a big club...he wasn't sure he had any classes with any of the other members.

Tommy nodded. "I get ya." He faced the gym ahead of him. Most of thier classmates were starting to look a bit tired of running around the gym in circles. And usually, Tommy would have sat out at this point. Apologizing to Miss Lorretti but telling her that he wouldn't be able to follow her any longer. But now...he didn't mind.
Tommy laughed at Angel's reaction. "Don't like sports huh? They're not...so bad. You just have to get the right type of guys together I guess. Prayer club, really? I didn't know we even had one of those..." Tommy's ideas on organized religion were less than positive, so he made a note to avoid that topic with Angel in the future. Wait...the future? We're just running partners... "The art club is cool though. You a painter or somethin?"

"Well...I'm not very good at them. And I've never had a good group of guys either, so I kind of got turned off of them," Angel shrugged. Being one of the only males in his elementary school not being able to get a basket in, or any other seeminglu easy task...and promptly losing the respect of everyone else in the class. Not his exact idea of a good time.
"Yeah, to be honest, I don't know how my father found out...but as soon as he did I was signed up," he decided against adding, 'against my own will'. However true that may have been.
"I try at least. Couldn't tell you how good I am at it," Angel said with a little laugh and a shrug. Some of the people in his class...just shocked him. He wasn;t anywhere near the top of the class, but he liked to think he was at least desent.

"Yeah I guess that could turn you off to them. I got a couple close guy friends. It's fun when we play cause it's about bonding I guess. And my best friend jumps in sometimes too. But she uses her nails so it's not really fair," Tommy explained with a slight laugh. He took a deep breath easily. This seemed to be the perfect pace.
Tommy listened to Angel carefully and then nodded. "So it's more about your Dad than you, huh? That's gotta be hard," He said quietly. Tommy was lucky in one respect. His parents never forced him to do anything he didn't want to. In fact, all they really expected from him was good grades. After they asked how his tests went, they usually went off into their own world and wouldn't check back towards midterms. Tommy supposed it was something about pride. They wanted him to be the first in the family to graduate from college. Both of them had it rough growing up in the South. And they just wanted him to suceed where they couldn't. It made sense to Tommy, although he did wish that they would show some type of interest in who thier son was.
Tommy looked over to Angel and smiled. "Something tells me that you're awful good. No matter what you say."

"Well...kind of. I mean...I'm not against it...I'd like to believe there is an after life, there is something watching over me, you know?" Angel paused, taking a deep breath. This is more personal than he usually discussed with people...especially people he barely knew. He knew he could talk to Mimi about anything, and this guy...Tommy...for some reason, he could talk to Tommy, as well. They'd just met. It was risky, he knew next to nothing about him, but for some reason...he couldn't even explain it. It was just right. "It's just...kind of hypocritical, you know? They say they'll love everybody, and then they...they don't. They pick and choose who deserves love and who doesn't...at least, most of the catholics I've met. No offence if you're one," he added quickly. "I like to believe there's a god...I just don't think my god is exactly like my dad pictures him," Angel was silent for a few seconds. "Sorry," he added.
"I really don't know about that...but thank you," Angel looked down slightly, hoping to hide the small blush rising up on his cheeks.

"Don't apologize," Tommy said quietly shaking his head. "Even if I was Catholic...which I'm not, I'd have to value your opinion. But I do agree with you. I don't know if anyone is watching over me per say...but heaven don't sound do bad." He chuckled, of course many wouldn't be put off by the idea of paradise. "I agree. If you believe that God loves all of His children then why do you discriminate? Women, other religions, gays....if God loves everyone then he loves them too." Tommy paused then wondering if he said "gays" in a certain way. A way that would give him away. No...I decided against that...I'm gonna be who I am and too bad if people don't like it. But I really hope Angel doesn't mind.
"You're welcome," Tommy said still watching him. A smile spread across his face when he saw him blush. Was this? Did he...."You're welcome."

Angel nodded as Tommy spoke, but his mind sort of froze for a second. Gays. He couldn't help the smile that came over his face...he knew Tommy wasn't like everybody else. He knew it. He couldn't be. After all that...he'd almost expected Tommy to give him a weird look and stop talking. Wouldn't be the first time. But of course, like everything else with Tommy so far, he completely surprised the younger student with the complete opposite. Easy to talk to instead of silent and counting down the minutes until the class was over. Fair instead of cocky. And now, open minded instead of closed and shallow like most of the other football guys. Angel had always believed in the old saying that looks could be deceiving, but this was just ridiculous. And he loved it.
"You're absolutely right," Angel agreed with a smile that only seemed to grow with every new realization about Tommy. "I half expected you to give me a look like I was a crazy person and walk away," he added with another laugh. It all sort of slipped out, much easier than words did when talking to anyone else.

"Oh well I like to hear that," Tommy replied with a short laugh. "I try to tell people I'm right but most of them tend to have issues with that." He shrugged knowing that sometimes he could really get himself in trouble. A few years ago, he spoke out in one of his classes against the death penelty and almost all of his classmates were at his throat. And his teacher at the time, just watched them tear him apart. But that incident never stopped him speaking his mind.
Tommy raised his brow and nudged Angel playfully. "I've known you for how long? I'm pretty sure you're not crazy. And even if you were...a little bit of craziness if good for people in this world. I wouldn't mind."

"Well...at least you try, right? Better than just staying silent and letting things happen. If everybody did that...I don't even wanna think about what the world would be like today," Angel pointed out. If that were the case...he certainly wouldn't be talking to Tommy, that was for sure.
"Hmm...going on twenty minutes?" he guessed with a wink. "I guess, but...I guess..." he paused for a minute. "I don't usually talk this much to people I just meet. Just talking like we are now usually takes at least a month or two," he admitted with a shrug and a shy smile.
