(sorry for the uncreative title ^^;;; haha)
Airi walked through the door, slightly bowing to the teacher--simply out of habit...but also to keep from feeling that she was being disrespectful. Japanese customs were hard to break.
She sat down in her desk, happily going through her purse, a hello kitty bag, to find her pencils and erasers.
"Today, I'm going to finish." she thought, smiling to herself.

Airi hummed quietly to herself as she drew, a soft smile on her face. She occasionally glanced up at the stuffed dolls in front of her; it was a panda doll her friend gave to her before she moved and a bunny doll her mom gave her when she was little. She had them sitting on a little bench she had bought for them and positoned to look like they were holding hands.
She hated having to reposition them after not finishing the class before...but the drawing was turning out well, by her standards, and she was content with it.

Caroline walked into the classroom with large bags under her eyes. Between Joanne and Brittani and Jonas, she got 1.3 hours of sleep the night before. And if Caroline only knew one thing about herself, she would know that she needed at least 6.5 hours of sleep to make it through school. But here she was, in the last period and somehow still awake. Although that could be due to the cup of coffee that she was nursing all day.
"Hey," She whispered to Airi as she sat down in her normal spot. "Free draw?" Caroline asked pointing to the bears. "I would really like that right now. My fruit drawing was getting just a bit too...boring." After running a hand through her hair, she pulled out her materials and decided on drawing a ring on her finger. It was the only thing left she had of her father...and she never understood why she kept it. Caroline hated the man, but she could never seem to part with the ring.

"Oh, hi." she replied softly, glancing up for only a second to see who it was, "Yeah, finally." she added, "And mine was, too."
After she had been drawing for a second, she realized something and took another glance at Caroline. She looked positively exhausted, "Are you alright? You seem tired..." she asked, trying to phrase it politely.

Caroline didn't take her gaze off the ring that she was drawing. "Yeah...thanks Airi. Just tired is all. Barely got any sleep. I think I'm just going to go home and sleep for the whole weekend....that would be nice," She sighed deeply and paused to look over at her peer's drawing.
"That's pretty awesome. Really cute. I never knew that pandas and bunnies could live in harmony. But I'm all for the alliance," She said with a small smile.

"Okay..." she said, "That sounds great. I'll probably do something similar."
She smiled a little wider as Caroline complimented her, "Thank you...I always have them arranged like this. I guess I never really thought of it that way, but I agree."
She resumed her soft humming from earlier, without realizing it, as she went back to drawing her picture.

Caroline nodded slowly. "I'll just have to ignore that whole homework thing. But I think I'll be able to handle it. At least for math I sleep through it anyway. Wouldn't be anything new," She replied with a shrug. The small, tiny part of her conscience that was responsible would get angry at her when she talked about such things. She really wanted to get into a good college so she could kick start her career. And if she kept sleeping through Dale's classes then getting into college mighth be harder...
"You're welcome," Caroline nodded. "Cuteness really." She went back to drawing her ring while struggling to keep her eyes open.

(it's much harder to talk to caroline as airi XD)
Even after being in America for 3 years, Airi didn't understand how Caroline, or anyone for that matter, could just sleep through a class--and not doing homework?. No one would ever even try that back in Japan. Of course, Japan and America were very different.
"That's a pretty ring." she stated, looking down at it.
(sorry it's kinda short...i'm like...braindead right now X\)

[haha they have less in common I guess.]
Caroline looked over at Airi and nodded. "Thanks. It's my 'I love you I hate you ring.'" She said leaving it at that. Then when she saw the somewhat confused look on the girl's face left over from Caroline's earlier statements, she decided to explain...a little.
"My father gave it to me. The birthday before he split. Leaving my brother and me," Caroline explained. As for her mother...Caroline was almost sure that that's why he left, to encourage his wife to get off booze. But she didn't get off and he didn't come back. Sometimes, things didn't add up.

(guess so)
"Oh...I'm sorry." said Airi, looking back up at Caroline, "That must've been hard."
That's just horrible...thought Airi. She'd never be able to make it through something like that, and neither would her sister.

Caroline waved her hand. "Don't worry about it. No need to say you're sorry...you had nothing to do with it." Then she shrugged and stared at her ring. "And I'm over it anyway." She went back to drawing her ring and then looked over to Airi.
"So...how have you been?" She asked quietly. Although they sat close, they barely ever talked. That was probably because she was often talking to Angel.

"I know, but...what else can I say?" she asked, twirling her pencil around to erase something.
"Oh, I've been alright." she replied, "And you?"
This was nice--usually Airi didn't really talk to anybody in class. And she didn't like that. She was a talkitive person and staying mostly quiet for over an hour killed her.

Caroline shrugged. She supposed that that was the nice thing to say. The whole "I'm sorry thing." She wished that there was some other way though. Even though some people might have good intentions, it wasn't always sincere. Just another one of the examples of limits of the English language.
"All right," Caroline said with another shrug. "How have your classes been? Good? Not too hard I hope."

"That's good..." said Airi, "Classes are fine...English is still a bit hard, though."
English was still hard as anything. There were some parts of the language she just couldn't grasp. She just didn't get it--she could hold a decent conversation, but she couldn't write an essay to save her life.

"Thanks, that'd help a lot." answered Airi, any help was wonderful, "My mother said something like that...'Best way to learn language is to be crowded by people who speak it!'" she quoted her mother, lowering the tone of her voice and using more of an accent.
She laughed and looked back down at her paper, I'm glad I don't really sound like that...
