Stevie was very much indebted to whoever came up with the dollar menu. If she ever met them she might have to grovel at their feet. She had grabbed a chicken sandwich, fries, and a small coke from Wendy's and was currently trying to eat her lunch in between bouts of customers. She popped a fry in her mouth and tried to chew it and swallow quickly before they made it to the counter. She covered her mouth with her hand getting out a muffled greeting.
"Welcome to Smitty's." She greeted.

"Hi umm..." Tommy said looking at the different choices. Ever since he and Angel had their first date he had a special place in his heart for Smittys. And when he felt the call of the ice cream need, there was no other place he would rather be. "Can I have a strawberry with sprinkles...or jimmies which ever you call them." He looked at the girl behind the counter for the first time and smirked. "And now you're making me want french fries but I doubt they're in the back are they?" He chuckled to himself.

"Hiya Tommy." Stevie greeted. She quickly went about trying to do his order. "Want a cone or cup? and what size?" She asked. " You could probably get the most ice cream in the small cup, but there's always something nice about a cone. Oh chocolate or colored sprinkles?" When he noted the French fries she laughed.
"Hey, a girl's gotta eat. If I didn't grab something now, I wouldn't be able to until almost eleven tonight, I'm the only one on too, so I can't duck into the back."

"Hey Stevie," Tommy grinned. She always was a nice girl. It was a shame that she had to follow the whim of every person that had a jones for ice cream. But hey, at least she got a discount on ice cream out of the deal. "Um, I think I'm gonna go with cone. And...the color ones. They taste different to me....I don't know if that's a good thing, but I swear they taste different." He chuckled as he pulled out his wallet.
"Huh. Couldn't you eat ice cream?" Tommy asked, "And say that were sampling the lovely products at Smittys and how yummy they were?" Then he thought about that for a moment. "Not that ice cream is much of a meal."

"You got it." Stevie said with a smile, she pushed her tightly braided hair over her shoulder. She pulled his ice cream up and set it in the cone. She grabbed a sthingy full of the sprinkles. "I think the colored ones taste different too. Of course I'm convinced that yellow M&Ms have their own unique taste, but whatever." She grinned. She handed it to him over the counter. "You caught our special, it's only a buck today." She told him with a smile.
"Yes I suppose I could just eat ice cream, but it wouldn't be very filling. I would have to keep eating it, and ice cream isn't a very healthy diet." She tacted on with a laugh.

"The yellow ones?" Tommy asked trying to think how yellow m&m's tasted. "Umm...well I know that the brown ones to for a fact. Or at least I think so. So the yellow ones must taste differently," He winked at Stevie, chuckling. Tommy raised his brow as there were no signs describing the special. Then he sighed and nodded, "Okay, I owe you one then."
Tommy laughed, "Hey if you put nuts on it there's protein. Strawberries and bannanas fruit. What else...chocolate sause comes from a bean. So vegetables..." He patted his chin trying to strectch out just a bit more. "And the cones are probably made from grain. So there we go. A balanced diet. And the ice cream itself is the milk."

"Yes the brown and yellow ones taste different. As my brother would say, you've found true love when someone agrees with you." She laughed. "His boyfriend agrees the blue ones taste different." When he said he owed her one, she shook her head.
"You don't owe me anything, it's Tuesday, Tuesday is buck ice cream day. Everyone knows that." She winked, before shaking her head. "But alas, I cannot eat nuts, for I'm allergic." She said mournfully. "So Wendy's it has to be. Mr. Smitty is pretty cool about letting us eat. I would have brought a sandwich, but I was running late this morning and it might have been kinda gross by the time school was done and all."

Tommy laughed and wondered if Angel would agree with him. If Stevie's brother was right, well he hoped that Angel would agree. "Oh I see," He stood to the side so other people could order their ice cream, but he could still talk to Stevie. "I didn't know that your brother was gay. Then again, I never knew you had a brother. Sorry, you probably mentioned him in passing, I just...yeah not paying attention often."
"Oh well in that case," He looked around and shrugged. Somehow, he would still find a way to thank her down the line. Maybe spare her from a prank. "That's the loophole isn't it? I see. Well I guess Wendy's is better for you then. Yeah, don't you love it when sandwiches get slimey as the day goes on? I think that slime may single handly made me a vegetarian."

The last of the surge of customers trickled away and she turned her attention back to Tommy. "Oh yeah, he is, and I do." She smiled. "He's actually my legal guardian and all that...It only became official recently." She shrugged. "Our parents are kinda screwed up...Dad's in politics and all, and can't have alternative kids and all." She rolled her eyes.
"Ew I think you just turned me off to sandwiches for the rest of my life." Stevie said wrinkling her nose. "I sometimes bring salad, but dressing can be tricky because the containers can spill and then I don't have any for my salad." She said with a laugh.
"So tell me Tommy, how have things been? I haven't seen you in a while."

"Oh I see," Tommy said between licks at his ice cream cone. "That sucks...but it's good that you have him then. So you live with him and everything? There must be something kinda liberating about that," Tommy thought outloud. If only he had a cool older sibling he thought that life would be just a little easier.
Tommy chuckled, "I'm sorry girl. Didn't mean to scare you away, just thought you know. It's the truth at least. Well you could always put the dressing on the salad when you pack it up. Then it gets all soggy, but still. Yummy greens for Stevie." He shrugged for a moment and looked around. Could he tell her? For goodness sakes, if her brother was gay, she doubted that she would freak out. "I have a boyfriend now. Got kicked out of the house for a while...and just got back in. But my parents ain't talking to me. You?"

"Yeah, I feel bad though. The apartment is barely big enough for him, let alone me too." She shook hear head. "I help out the best I can, but I can only do so much with my ice cream salary." She shrugged. "He works the night shifts now, so I don't get to see him as often as I'd like, but he has every other Sunday off." She grinned when he mentioned yummy greens.
"Yes, the dressing does make everything soggy." She agreed, "which is why I put it on the side. I'm kinda picky about salad dressing too." When he told her he had a boyfriend now, and had gotten kicked out of his house, but was back, and his parents weren't talking to him, she took a breath.
"Well, yay for the boyfriend, is it anyone I know?" She asked, clapping quickly. "It sucks about your parents. Have you ever thought of moving out? Getting your own apartment? I'm sure you could find a roommate. Hell, I'd room with you so my brother wouldn't have to have me in his hair all the time."

"Wow...sounds like he's working hard. You too. On top of school and everything. I know I have to get a job eventually," Tommy said with a sigh. "Especially because I don't know how much my parents are going to be willing to fork out for me. I got a full scholarship to NYU...but you know. I still have to work on that whole living by myself thing." Tommy picked up a napkin and dabbed his fingers which were getting pelted by ice cream.
"Are you? Only like a few kinds?" Tommy asked. "I think I worship French dressing. It's an odd facination. I'm not quite sure why...but I do love it so."
Tommy chuckled at Stevie's reaction. Clapping was good. "I don't know if you know him. Angel Schunard. He's a sophomore I think....at least I hope so or I'm not a very good boyfriend." His own apartment. Now that was an idea, a nice one. But then he'd have to get one of those job things. "I never really...thought of it no. But now that you mention it, it sounds nice. Really nice. Maybe I could get a job at the bookstore down the street...I don't think I could work here. Too much ice cream...go right to my gut," Tommy teased. "Would you really wanna do that? Move in together?"

"I'm hoping to get a track and field or volleyball scholarship. Their have been scouts in the stands for the past few events." She popped her last french fry in her mouth, before throwing everything away.
"French is not particularly my favorite." She said. "I like light Italian." She shrugged. "To each their own I suppose. My brother drenches everything in ranch." She wrinkled her nose.
"I don't think I know him, but that's good your happy." She grinned. "Well I do think the bookstore and Santa Fe might be hiring." When he asked if she would really wanna be his roommate she shrugged.
"I don't see why not. As long as I could actually sleep on a bed, and not the couch anymore." She laughed. "I live with my brother, so you aint got nothing I aint seen."

"I never pegged you as a jock, Stevie. Then again I don't know if volleyball and track really count as jocky sports. In fact, I think it's just football. Maybe basketball. Baseball. Not soccer even. The guys are too hot...don't tell Angel I said that," Tommy said slirpping up his ice cream.
Tommy pointed to her and nodded. "Ranch is also a classic. I've always been afraid of the italian. There's little stuff floating in it!" He let a smile spread across his face, "Yeah. We're pretty happy. Still have a few so called hurdles to jump, but we're happy." Tommy laughed, "Believe me, Stevie. I'm good with beds. Better than couches." He raised his brow. "So you expect me to run around nude all day? I might have to take you up on that offer."

"I've been doing Volleyball since middle school, and I joined Track and Field because it didn't interfere with volleyball." She laughed. "Don't worry your secret is safe with me." She shook her head.
"Tommy, those little things in Italian dressing are herbs and spices." She laughed. "It's good. Give it a shot, you might like it." When he told her there were still some obstacles to jump she nodded. "I'm sure you'll beat it into submission." When he said he was good with beds she laughed.
"Good, because I've five ten and sleep on a couch that's only five seven." She shook her head. "I never said that, I'm just saying, living with my brother, I'm not squeamish is all."
