"Well, at least you have some sort of emergency brake. Wouldn't want you out there doing crack or something. Friends don't let friends do drugs, right?" Kyle shrugged, making a little face at the commonly used slogan. "But friends don't let friends be stupid is a better slogan in general, I think. Covers more bases."

Penny smiled weakly. "Hmm, you got a point there. Plus, it makes more sense in an inexplicable way." She shrugged a bit, chuckling weakly. "It's really great you're so willing to look out for me. I appreciate it."

"You need at least one person, right? Might as well be me," Kyle suggested. He took his feet down from the front of the stage and put them back on the floor. "I thought it did. Glad I'm not the only one."

Penny's smile widened. "Yeah, I suppose so. I mean...April tries, but she's really busy most of the time." She paused. "Not that I don't think you could ever be busy." She shook her head. There was no need to get all tongue tied, was there? "And nope, you're not the only one."

"Lucky for you, I'm almost never busy. Close to nonexistant social life, if you know what I mean. I think I bring it upon myself most of the time. Plus the guys I hang out can be pretty boring. Not really the most fun." Kyle laughed. He liked it when she was in a good mood.

Penny raised an eyebrow. She wasn't quite sure whether to be happy or pity him for not being busy. "Well...you have me at least, if your other friends are really that boring." She bit her lip. "Hope that didn't sound as conceited as I thought it did."

"Nah, not conceited. But every once and awhile political debates and grade squabbles get on my nerves." Kyle winked. "Good thing I have you then. Keep me from falling asleep in my dinner."

Penny sighed of relief. "Oh good. Wouldn't want my head to swell up." She folded her hands on her knees and laughed a bit. "That's all they talk about? Ouch." She shook her head with a pathetic smile.

"Not all, but close. What can you say, though? Most of the other guys are too dumb to talk to. Part of it is just finding a happy medium. That's why I have an easier time finding girl friends. Not girlfriends, but girls that are friends. You get it."

Penny laughed a bit. "Yeah, I get it. I find it to be the opposite though." She shrugged a bit. "Most girls are a little melodramatic, which I realize is probably sounding horrible coming from me." She shrugged. "Anyways, we're pretty much on the same page."

"Oh! At first when you said that, it sounded like you meant 'I find it to be the opposite' as if you meant you have an easy time finding boyfriends! I was a little taken aback by that. I mean, it's not like you couldn't get one, you probably could if you wanted to. But it was because you were worried about being conceited...." Kyle trailed off, not sure how to finish that.

Penny's eyebrows almost met her hairline before she covered her mouth to keep from laughing. "Oh...are you kidding?!" She shook her head, pressing her lips together. "That'll teach me to be more clear, I guess." She smiled weakly toward him.

"No, not kidding. But I guess it'll teach me to listen better, won't it? I have issues with that," Kyle admitted, lifting his feet onto the stage yet again. "Doesn't really matter, though. You got your point across."

"Hmm, true." She still found the fact that he thought that she meant it was easy for her to get a boyfriend laughable. The truth was that she never even really thought about that subject. The closest she ever got to thinking about it was wondering if there were any real life Prince Charming's when she was reading fairy tales as a kid. Usually she had to hide them under her pillow so her parents wouldn't think she was reading useless books, but she managed.
"Although I don't really know if you're such a bad listener. You've been listening to me pretty well up until then" she pointed out casually.

Kyle shrugged. "Guess I was. To a point." He smiled weakly. While looking at her, he realized that it wouldn't be hard for someone like her to have a boyfriend- with the exception of her parents looming over her, of course. He'd have to make sure any potential boyfriend checked out with him first- like he was a big brother figure.
