"Lil, I need to see the switches to know which ones to check. Besides the fact that you don't know what all the lights are," Mark replied, standing back up and starting over towards the lightboard with her. He stopped in front of the panel of switches and picked the pad he had been writing on back up. He flipped a switch and wrote it down quickly, before Lilly could protest.

"Fine. Be that way. But it's not my fault if your ankle is the size of an eggplant by the time we get home. And the same color, no less. I tried to help you, but no...you just had to be stubborn." Lilly crossed her arms and waited for him to finish the switch-working.

Mark sighed and shook his head. "I'm almost done, Lil," he replied as he flipped the last switch. He wrote it down and then turned the lights back on so that the janitorial staff wouldn't trip over any of the props when they came by to clean up. "Just let me get my backpack and we'll go," he said. He started towards the edge of the stage, because he had left his books in one of the seats.

Lilly bit her lip as she watched him walk, or rather, limp across the stage. "You be careful on those stairs, Mark, I don't want you hurting yourself further. You're not supposed to be injury child. That's me. I can't have you usurping me on the injury throne. My cuts and bruises would not be too happy with you. And I'm driving."

"Don't worry, Lil. I'm not going to beat you on that one any time soon. Although, I still hold the record for most time spent in the hospital," Mark reminded her. He smiled back at her as he picked up his backpack, trying to ignore the pain in his ankle. He slowly made his way back onto the stage and sighed. "Would you mind helping me?" he asked, smiling sheepishly.

"Oh yeah, that. But I have you beat on visits. I've had to go more often than you. You just stay longer. Rule number one about pain: don't ignore it. Don't be a tough guy. But I know you, Mark. You don't even *have* tough guy. You don't even *identify* with tough guy. And of course I'll help you. Here," Lilly moved next to him to be his 'human crutch'.

"Thanks for the info," he said, rolling his eyes as he leaned against her. "And thanks for calling me weak, Lil. Really makes me feel good, you know?" he added, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Let's just go, okay? I have a feeling Mom's going to make me go to the emergency room and I don't want to be there until the wee hours of the morning this time." He leaned against her as they made their way out to his car. "Keys are in the front pocket of my backpack," he told her.

"You're too sweet and nice to be tough guy. Sorry, Mark. Now stay still." Lilly walked behind him for a moment to pull the keys out of his bag. "All right. Here we go. Outside. And if you really don't want to go to the emergency room I can help you myself. I have some wraps and tape and stuff in my dance bag. I can get you some ice too, if you need it."

Mark waited as Lilly got the keys. "You know how Mom is, Lil. Second I walk in the door like this she'll freak out and make both of us get back in the car. And considering the fact that we're going to be late, she'll be waiting at the door for us, worrying herself sick," Mark reminded her. "Besides, it'll be too late for ice before we get home. If you don't put it on within about 20 minutes it won't stop the swelling."

"Then we'll go in through the back door. And don't worry about it. I'll call her and tell her I was with April (which I was.) And I know about the swelling. But we'll be home in like...twelve minutes anyway. And I'll tell her I'm getting ice for something else. But this is if you really don't want to go to the hospital." They made it out the door to the parking lot. "Okay, what side did you park on? I don't remember."

Mark shook his head. "We might as well just let her find out. I probably should go, anyway, since it started bruising so quickly," he replied. He looked around, before pointing to his car. "Its over there," he said, thankful he'd parked on the side closest to the outside stage doors. At least he wouldn't have to walk all the way across the parking lot without his shoe.

"Well, let me come with you. It'll give me an excuse for not finishing my French homework that I don't understand. And oh! It's close. Here..." Lilly helped him over to the car and let him into the passenger's seat. She squealed a little bit as she got into the driver's side. "Guess what, Mark? I'm driving again! Ahh!"

Mark rolled his eyes as he got into the car. "That's great, Lil. Let's just get this over with, okay? I have an essay due in one of my classes tomorrow that I need to finish. And spending the afternoon in the ER is only going to get me one extra day," he said. He closed the car door and waited for Lilly to get in the driver's seat. "Lilly, if you're going to drive my car you had better calm down. If you wreck it I will kill you."

"Oooh, an essay. What's it about? Maybe I can help you when you're on the operating table." Lilly stuck the key in the ignition after buckling herself in. "Don't worry, I won't smash it. I might drive it a little '2Fast 2Furious' but I"m not gonna wreck it. Promise." She pulled out of the parking lot (probably too fast) and started home.

"History. The Hapsburgs, to be specific. And that really isn't funny," Mark replied. When she started talking about driving like the people in that movie, he blanched. "Lilly, that really isn't funny. The didn't crash because they were stunt drivers. You've only had your permit for four weeks."
