Mark looked at the lightboard and sighed. This was going to take a while. He had to figure out which switch went to which set of lights. He sighed and flipped a few switches off until the stage was dark. Then he pulled out his flashlight and started working, flipping the switches one at a time and then checking to see which lights came on with which switch. He sighed as he hit a set that appeared to not do anything. "Well isn't that just lovely," he muttered.
Mark turned towards the stage as he heard someone mutter something under their breath and turned the stage lights back on. "Sorry. Forgot to warn everyone I was checking the lights," he said, smiling sheepishly at the person.

Lilly ran into a microphone cart when the lights suddenly went off. Standing on one foot to nurse her stubbed toe, she called out to the familiar voice. "Mark? Mark, is that you? I forgot you were here today!"

"Yeah, its me Lil," Mark replied. Once the lights were back on, Mark walked over towards where Lilly was standing. "You okay?" he asked, putting a hand on her arm to steady her. He smiled sheepishly. "Guess I should warn people next time I'm messing with the light board, huh?" Mark asked.

"Yeah, maybe. Like just call out to everybody, 'I DON'T KNOW QUITE WHAT I'M DOING SO JUST...HOLD ON A SECOND!!!' That might help the general public next time they want to walk in a straigh tline without hitting anybody. But again, just a suggestion. So what are you up to? You know, other than forcing people to walk into stuff." Lilly put her foot back down on the floor, dropping her bag down next to her.

Mark couldn't help but laugh. "Don't know what I'm doing? Lil, I've done this every year since I joined Drama club, remember?" he asked, smiling. "Not up to much other than that. Just making sure all the lights still work. They like to burn out or die on you between plays," he said. He walked back over to the lightboard and started messing with the lights again, starting to turn them back off. "You might want to be careful," he joked.

Lilly pivoted in her spot, holding her arms out away from her. "Nobody come any closer, the lights are coming off and I might hit you." She laughed. "Just kidding. Try them again, then, if that's what you must do. So what exactly does that switch do?"

Mark couldn't help but laugh as Lilly yelled out at everyone else. He turned back to the switches, flipping another one on and then writing down which lights came on. "Which one?" he asked, looking up as she pointed. "Oh, that one turns on those lights in the middle over there," he said, pointing towards the center of the stage. He flipped off the switch he'd just turned on, and then turned on the switch she had pointed to. Instead of the middle lights coming on, the ones on the far left came on. "Okay, so I was wrong."

"So...you don't know what you're doing. Really, you don't." While the light was still on, Lilly walked over to her brother to look at the lightboard. "Wooooooooww.....lots of lights. And switches. And buttons and stuff. What does this one do?" she asked, pointing to a big red button. "Can I push it?"

Mark looked at him over the top of the glasses he wore for reading. "I haven't messed with these since last year, Lil. I sort of forget between shows. Hence why I have to redo this every time," Mark replied. He shook his head and laughed at Lilly's eagerness about the buttons and switches. Some times she could be like a little kid about some things. "Don't mess with that one. It opens the trapdoor, and I don't want anyone falling through. I hasn't been tested since I've been here, as far as I know."

"Ooooh, trap door. Sweet. I didn't know we had a trap door. How about this one?" Lilly moved her finger to another, smaller green button. "Can I push that one? I like buttons. I also like Mountain Dew. Do you know if we have any at home? I kind of want some."

Mark glanced at the button Lilly was pointing at. "That brings down the video screen. Again, don't mess with it. It would really be bad for someone to get hit with that," Mark replied. He flipped another switch and wrote down a couple of notes, including the fact that one of the lights was out. Mark raised an eyebrow at Lilly's train of thought. "How much Mountain Dew have you already had today?" Mark asked. "Or did they put you on Ritalin without me knowing about it?"

"Nope. No Ritalin. And unfortunately for me, no Mountain Dew. I just want some real real bad. Like how sometimes I want chocolate but then when Cindy comes back from college to visit she eats all of it so when I want some it's gone....yeah, I'm just hyper today. Will you let me push one button, at least?" Lilly hopped from one foot to the other, back and forth, as she watched Mark play around with the switchboard.

Mark shook his head at Lilly's hyperness. As much as he loved her, some times she could be really annoying. Especially when she was hyper. "You can press that one," Mark replied, pointing to a small black one near the other two she had been looking at. "It turns on the sound system. But you have to turn it back off before you leave. We aren't supposed to play the radio on it, but I know for a fact that its set to automatically come on," Mark replied, smiling. "I can say I didn't know. I've never gotten in trouble before, so I'm sure they'll believe me."

"Oooh, wild." Lilly tapped the button quickly, listening to the stereo turn on. The whining music eked its way through the speakers. "Okay, ew. Who automatically sets a station to country? That just about killed my hyper." She pushed the button again, getting it to turn off. "Well, that was a let down. Next time I want to press the cool buttons. Like the trap door one. Save that for me next time, okay?"

"Hey, I didn't set it," Mark replied, smiling as she turned the radio back off. "And hey, what's so back about country, anyway? Some of it is kinda good," he said. He turned back to the buttons. "Well, maybe we could test the trapdoor. Someone needs to do it... it might actually be needed at some point." He sighed and sat the notepad down on a bench that had been put in the wings to be used as a prop and took off his glasses. "I'll go over there, and you press the button when I tell you to, okay?"
