"Someone like you?" Stevie echoed. "Is it by any chance the same reason I'm living with my brother? Because your father in this case, can't stand the idea of an alternative lifestyle that isn't what they wanted you to be?" She asked. She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye.
"I'm sorry either way." She told him honestly. Stevie hated to see people hurting. Being treated badly, and she did tend to be a bit of a mother hen at times.

Josh raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, that's pretty much it. What's weird is I've been out since freshman year, and he didn't really have a problem with it until recently," Josh replied. "Of course, he started going to church with one of his friends from work, so that's probably the reason for it. But I'll be okay, because at least Aunt Becca doesn't care."
Josh smiled. "So, since you brought it up, what 'alternative lifestyle' pissed your parents off? If you don't mind me asking, that is."

"Nah, I don't mind." Stevie said. "Well see my brother Jeremy came out when he was eighteen and he already had his own place by then, so my parents just sorta stopped talking to him. When it came out that I was bi, well they hit the roof. My mom screamed and yell and cracked me a couple times. I locked myself in the bathroom and climbed out the window. My brother took me in." She shook her head. "We went back one day when they were both out and got what I absolutely needed." She sighed.
"I feel bad for him, because he has it hard enough as it is, without having to worry about me too, but I work to help him pay bills, and he has never complained. He even converted a little part of his living room into a bed space for me. He tries really hard to make it ok."

"Sounds like a good guy. Wish all brothers were like that. Mine quit talking to me the day I told everyone that I'm gay. My parents at least had the decency to try and keep open minds about the subject." He sighed. "
I'm going to have to get a job soon. Aunt Becca's got it hard enough with just Lils and Dylan to take care of, especially now that the guy she was supposed to marry's been arrested," Josh said. He shook his head. "I want to kill him. If I'd been old enough, I probably would have killed my uncle when I found out what he'd done to Lils." He shook his head. "Sorry. It pisses me off to see people hurt my family. Lils is the closest to me in age out of all my cousins. I tend to pull the over-protective brother act a lot with her."

"He is a good guy. My brother is pretty much all I have. I believe that friends can be your family too, but, biologically, he's all I have. The extended family has all sided with my parents. It was really odd, it went from big overwhelming holidays, and getting gifts from people you don't even know, to quite holidays, with my brother which I like more!" She shook her head. "Usually we invite our neighbors to share them with us. They're a wonderful gay couple, and my brother recently got himself a boyfriend, who's a fantastic guy. So the days aren't quite as lonely anymore."
"I understand. My brother pulls the over protective act with me too. He hurt her?" She echoed."I'm sorry, is she alright?"
"I work at Smitty's, and we're always looking for new people. If you want, I can see if we need someone soon." She told him when he said he was going to need to find a job.

"I'm lucky that some of my family understands," Josh replied. "But friends can act like family in a pinch."
Josh shook his head. "She says she's okay. I haven't actually seen her since I got here, so we'll see. She's a pretty tough kid, though, and this isn't the first time its happened to her."
Josh smiled. "That'd be great. I'll probably look around a bit, see what there is available."

Stevie nodded. "Well if she says she's ok, then I suppose as her cousin you should be inclined to believe her." When he said some of his family understood she nodded. "Yeah, that is lucky. I'm lucky to have my brother, so people don't even have that." She shook her head. She stretched her legs out trying to work out the soreness of her muscles.
"Yeah, you might be able to get a better job somewhere else, but if you need it, let me know. Smitty's is real flexible with their schedules. Thankfully. When I do track and field and Volleyball I need time off, and I just auditioned for a play, though I don't know if I'll actually get in. But if I do, I'll need time off, and their real good about stuff like that. " She smiled.

Josh sighed. "There's always more to the story where our family's involved. And Lils is pretty notorious for not telling the whole story," Josh replied. He shook his head. "I don't know how she does it."
"I'll definitely come fill out an application," Josh replied, smiling at her. "Thanks, by the way. That'll be a big help. I've got to get something soon."

Stevie shrugged. "Someones the whole story is more hurtful then helpful." She said gently. "But who am I to judge." She fiddled with her hair. When he said he'd come fill out an application and then thanked her she smiled.
"Sure. I know about needing a job. We're trying to scrape together enough money to move into a different town home. The town home two door over converted theirs slightly. Their kitchen and living room is the same, but the bathroom had been coverted more to a flat, with it's own mini bathroom, and the master bedroom was reduced in size to add a bathroom there too. It would nice not to sleep in the living room and feel as if I was always in the way." She shrugged.
"We make due with what we have."

"I guess," Josh replied, shaking his head. "Sleeping on a couch does suck. That's where I've been for the past few days, at a friend's house in Virginia waiting on someone to drive me up here. Hopefully you'll be able to get the money soon." He sighed, looking around to see if Lilia was ever going to come out.
"I swear, that girl could get lost in a paper bag," he said, smiling.

"Yeah, the couch turns out into a bed, but then we can't ever get it back inside, so I usually just sleep on the couch itself, which is sorta short." She shrugged. When he said the girl, she assumed was his cousins could get lost in a paper bag, she laughed.
"She's probably in the middle of something. Technically school isn't over for another few minutes, but I used my slightly wounded arm to get excused early." She shrugged. "No one needs to know that it's more or less ok, but it does hurt if it gets bumped."

"Yeah, I can imagine a couch would be pretty short for you, too. My friend's parents had one of those huge sectional couches, so we just rearranged it to make it longer for a few days," Josh explained.
Josh raised an eyebrow at Stevie's reply. "Wounded arm? What happened?" he asked, putting her books down next to him.

Stevie glanced at him. "Baseball accident." She said with a shrug. "I babysit these little boys sometimes and all three of them love baseball. We were playing, and the youngest shouldn't really be holding bats. When his oldest brother tried to yank it away, a fit ensued, and then I was on my back with the kids screaming." She rubbed it in memory.
"It was more swollen and bruised than anything else, but sore."

"Ouch," Josh replied. "Yeah, little kids can be dangerous. My cousin Dylan hit me in the head with a bat a few years ago on accident. At least, we think it was an accident. He was only like, three at the time, so there really isn't any way to know what he was thinking." Josh shook his head. "The first of many trips to the emergency room. Its a miracle I haven't been horribly disfigured yet," he joked.

"I hear that." Stevie agreed. "I've gotten into a few to many scrapes. It really is surprising I'm not completely monstrous." She looked over. "When I was ten, some kid called my brother a queer." She frowned at the memory. "I got so mad. I marched right up to him, balled my hand up, and cracked him right in the mouth." She shook her head.
"My brother taught me how to fight if need be, and I think I perhaps took it to the extreme a time or two."
