Josh just nodded. "Some times it can't be helped. I managed to keep from fighting too much, but there are always a couple of people who aren't going to leave you alone until you do." He shook his head. "Most of my emergency room trips have been accidents, though. I've always been pretty clumsy," he replied.

Stevie smiled lightly. "A clumsy football player? That's a new one." She shrugged when he said there was always a couple of people who aren't going to leave someone alone until they fight.
"Yeah, but hopefully you can get out of it a little better than I can." She shrugged. "I get totally offended if anything is said about my brother, or my family. When I began to live with my brother a lot of rumors started. I was young and stupider back then and was quick to fight to defend my honor or whose ever honor. I'd like to think I've smartened up since then."

Josh smiled. "Yeah. I've never gotten seriously hurt playing, but I've had some close calls. When I'm not on the field, I'm a klutz," he said.
"It's pretty tough to know when its worth it," he replied. "I got into a couple of fights with my teammates when I first came out that really weren't worth it. Not only was it stupid, but it got us a lot of laps after practice."

Stevie nodded. "Extra laps defiantly not fun. I've gotten those too. Either goofing around or cause of a fight. Since I run anyhow, it wouldn't bother me as much as some others. I really hate having to do it if it isn't my fault, ya know?" She sighed and brushed her hair away.
"Sometimes I'm the scapegoat." She shrugged lightly.

"I've never been much of a runner," Josh replied. "Making it through extra laps after practice was always pretty hard for me. Even Lils can outrun me, and I'm almost a foot taller than she is." He couldn't help but smile. "But at least I didn't have to do too much running in football. I mean, I didn't run nearly as much as some people."

"Oh well that's to bad you aren't much of a runner. Your right, you don't have to do much running in football. What about basketball though? You have to run back and forth over the court. I guess that's not as bad as laps, but doesn't that bother you?" Stevie questioned. She had been built for running as her brother had put it. Her long legs defiantly helped her cross more distance.

"Not really. My mind's always on the game in basketball. I don't really think about it," he replied. "I guess its just because things go so much faster in basketball. You don't have time to think about how tired you are because you've got to keep up with the game."

"Kinda like Volleyball." Stevie replied with a nod. "Never have time to think about how much your knee's hurt, or how bad it hurt when the ball hit your wrist wrong. Your to focused on making sure you spike it, or set it up." She smiled.
"You'll feel it later trying to walk to your car." She said with a laugh.

"Exactly," Josh said, smiling. "The last season I played was freshman year. Halfway through league semi-finals I rolled my ankle, but I didn't even notice it until they pulled me off the court. The coach thought I was making it up, but I was on crutches for two weeks after my mom took me to the doctor. After that I decided that I wasn't going to play for that coach again."

"Ouch. Rolling your ankle must have hurt!" She shuddered lightly. "The first volleyball coach we had here was a tyrant. He just didn't see to get it. One of the girls had seasonal allergies really badly and ended up quitting. Well the rest of us just wished her well and still hung out with her. That coach insisted we not talk to her!" She shook her head.
"It was crazy. That same season I fractured my wrist. Instead of being benched like I was suppose to be, he kept trying to put me in the game, cast and all!"

"It didn't really hurt until afterwards. I've done it so many times it doesn't really stop me unless it's really bad," Josh replied. "Coaches can be stupid some times. All they really care about is winning. At least my old football coach understood that when people get hurt they don't need to play."
"A fractured wrist probably hurt a lot more than my ankle did. I haven't managed to actually break anything yet."

Stevie shrugged. "I've broken several bones over the course of my life thus far, and I'm sure I'll break several more." She shook her head. "I try the best I can, and I practice all the time. Anytime between work and school and homework and practice, I practice on my own. I really need to get a scholarship. I can't afford College on my own, my job pay goes mostly to bills and rent." She sighed.
"I never wanted to play a sport all through college, but unless I do, I don't see college happening."

Josh shrugged. "I won't get a scholarship for playing a sport. Hopefully my dad will have forgiven me by the time I graduate. My parents saved up some money for me to go to college. I'm just expected to get enough academic scholarships to pay the rest." He sighed. "I don't know what I'll do if my dad hasn't gotten over it. Probably take out some student loans and then spend the first few years after I graduate trying to pay them back."

Stevie nodded. "Yeah." She sighed again. "My grades are good, but not good enough. I don't qualify for student loans either. I have to get a scholarship." Deciding she was getting hot, she pulled the band off her wrist.
"Sorry, hang on." She said apologetically, as she yanked her hair up into a messy bun and securing it with the band as best she could.
"It's getting awfully hot."

Josh smiled. "My parents told me I couldn't play football if I didn't do really well in my classes. The ultimatum worked pretty well, I guess," he replied.
"It's okay. I don't see how girls aren't always burning up with all that hair. Mine is bad enough," he said, smiling and pulling some of it out so he could see the ends. "Need to get a haircut soon, before I start looking like a geeky white boy with a fro."
