"Espresso? I've never had one of those before. The coffee type or the ice cream. Is it good?" Tommy asked glad to move on from the uncomfortableness. It wasn't that it was that uncomfortable. He just didn't want to push the subject too much. Maybe make Angel think that he liked him...
"I think I'm gonna go for the good old cookies and cream," Tommy said looking at the option. "With jimmies and...something else...butterfinger pieces." He nodded to himself. "Cone or cup? The eternal question."

"The ice cream. I've never had it either, but come on...chocolate and coffee? That's too good to pass up," Angel laughed, shrugging a bit. "It's like a marriage of my two addictions."
"Please! Cone, of course. Eating icecream in a bowl is no fun," Angel laughed. It had been a while since...no. He'd pretty much never gona out with a guy like this...just to have fun.

"It seems like a good marriage indeed," Tommy said with a slight chuckle. "I like the peanut butter stuff too. That's the marriage I like. One day I just brought a har of peanut butter for lunch. Sthingy. Went to town. I thought Benny was gonna take it away from me."
Collins held his hands up. "Ok. Then we will do the cones." He chuckled. "I wouldn't wanna ruin this little..."Yeah what is this? "journey. Wouldn't want that on my head."

"Are you serious?" Angel asked, his eyebrows raising towards his hairline. "How could you even do that without having a heart attack? Or...gluing you jaw shut?" He couldn't understand how someone could love peanut butter that much...but then again, he'd gotten the substance stuck to the roof of his mouth enough times to effectively turn him off.
"Aw, don't worry, I don't put that much importance in cones...but if chocolate espresso isn't as good as I'm hoping, I want to have atleast the cone to look forward to," he shrugged.

Tommy laughed heartily. "Well somehow I avoided the heart attack. I really like peanut butter. And I did have a drink to wash it down so it wasn't that bad. I had a few close calls with the gluing thing but I prevailed," He winked at Angel, his smile getting bigger.
"That's a good way of thinking of it. Have you ever had one of those cones with the chocolate on the side with sprinkles? Those are great...or waffle, sugar," Tommy named them all out of nervousness. "Sorry...I'm kinda...nervous." Now that he knew that Angel was gay too, this was kinda a date. At least, more of a date than any other excersion he'd been on. He didn't know how to sit, how to talk, how to eat...he remembered reading in one magazine that you shouldn't eat anything messy on your first date. So much for that.

"You're weird," he said simply, a playful smirk on his lips. "But in the best possible way, of course," he clarified.
"Oh yeah...nothing better than the waffle cones," Angel laughed gently. He could sense Tommy's nervousness. It was strange; usually he would be the one to be getting all jittery...but for some reason, Tommy relaxed him. "It's okay...if I'm not nervous," you don't have to be," Angel said comfortingly.

Tommy laughed and shook his head. "Don't worry. My pride is still intact. In fact, I kinda consider that a compliment so thanks." He said with a grinning.
Tommy's eyes seemed to open wider as if he had been squinting all day. Then his smile spread. "Thank you, Angel. I'll try not to be....so do you wanna go order?" He asked scooting halfway off the bench. God he's cute. And...just...you're starting to sound like a love sick puppy. Well...I might as well enjoy it. I wonder if he would go to homecoming with me. I wonder how that would go...

"Sure...but if this stuff is nasty, you have to help me finish it," Angel agreed with a grin, grabbing his bag. "Something on your mind?" he asked Tommy. Though...it really wouldn't have surprised Angel at all if the senior always had something on his mind.

"We'll struggle through it together," Tommy said laughing. "It's a deal." He walked up to the counter and motioned for Angel to go first. "Go on ahead. Still choosing on the what type of cone. There are just too many choices for me to make."
Tommy nodded. "Yeah...there kinda always is something on my mind," He admitted. "I'll explain when we're eating." Being in a line wasn't exactly the best place to ask if he wanted to go to the ball with him.

"Okay...I'll have the Chocolate Espresso icecream, one scoop...and a waffle cone," Angel added after a thought, standing on his tiptoes slightly to get a better look into the case.
"Okay..." Angel nodded, looking at Tommy. He knew he was getting his hopes up, but...he had to wonder what it was. Was he...was he interested? He couldn't help but feel like he was setting himself up for disappointment, but it was a nice thought...

"And um...I'll have cookies and cream in a waffle cones too. And with sprinkles. Rainbow. And umm...some butterfinger bits. Thanks," Tommy took a step back and went into his wallet. "Oh one scoop sorry. Knew I forgot something." He smiled to himself knowing that his memory wasn't exactly a steal trap.
The clerk handed Angel his cone and then Tommy. "Five Dollars," She said holding out her hand.
"Oh we're not," Tommy tried to say. "Why don't I just pay and you can pay next time around?" Tommy asked him without even thinking about the meaning behind 'the next time around.'

"If you're sure..." Angel said softly, a small smile reaching his lips. He wanted there to be a next time...that was a good sign. A very good one. Angel slipped the server a few dollars as tip quickly, hoping he didn't notice.
"So what's up?" he asked as he began heading towards the table.

Collins pulled out his money and saw Angel include his from of corner of his eyes. A part of him wanted to object but he decided against it. He gave the woman the correct money and nodded to her.
So how much courage you got in ya? Tommy asked himself. "Oh yeah...that," Tommy stopped to lick the top of his ice cream and chew on the butterfinger pieces. "Umm..." He slipped back onto the bench and wiped his face with his wrist.
"You know the homecoming dance is coming up?" Tommy asked although Angel would have to be pretty blind not to know. All of the hallways were filled with flyers for the event. "I was just wondering if you wanted to go...to go with me. If not that's cool. I know it would kinda out the both of us to the whole school and if you don't wanna risk that then I'm totally cool with it." He started to eat his ice cream again before he could say anything else that would ruin his chances.

"You're...homecoming...?" Angel asked slowly, hsi eyes widening a bit as it all registered. Tommy was asking him out. On a legitamate date. With the whole school there. Angel took a bite of icecream to steal a little time. Going out with Tommy...he wanted that. He wanted that alot. But...it was homecoming. The whole school would be there...was he ready for everyone to know? He admired Tommy for being so strong, but he wasn't sure he could be, as well. And if his father found out...he could pretty much kiss his home goodbye. Running a hand through his hair, he swallowed the ice cream before speaking.
"I want to go with you..." he said quickly, wanting tpo make that much known. "It's just...I mean...I just don't know...if I'm ready...I mean...the only way of doing this I could see would be by pretending I'm going with Mimi...which would be neither fun or believable." Angel took a deep breath, in disbelief that he was turning this down. Or trying to. The more he thought about it, the more appealing it seemed and the less he cared about the consequences. "Or we could go...just say we're friends...which we are," Angel added on quickly, not wanting Tommy to think he was assuming too much. But he was desperate to find a compromise...one that would lt him go to the dance with Tommy.

The moment that Angel resaid homecoming, Tommy knew that it was a bad idea. Angel wasn't ready. Even though he told himself not to take it personally, that was easier said than done. He listened to Angel carefully, analyizing every word that he said. Just going as friends? They were just friends? Tommy averted his eyes and ate off the top of his ice cream cone.
"Oh...it's ok. I'm sorry I shouldn't be pushing you at all. Everyone...has their own timing I guess. And I didn't mean to...dictate that," Tommy said somewhat quietly as he was trying to ignore the knot forming in his stomach. "We...we could try to go as friends if you want. But...Angel...I'm gonna want to dance with you. Could...maybe one dance at least? We wouldn't even have to admit that we're dancing together...just in a group or something. If not, I can handle it. I'll just hang out by the food..." Or maybe I won't go at all.Tommy added to himself.
