Angel watched Tommy carefully, and instantly felt like he wanted to sink into the ground and just stay there for a good long time. Without another thought, he reached across and gently took Tommy's hand out of pure instinct, just wanting to make his friend feel better. Just his friend? He hadn't wanted to assume anything, but the look on Tommy's face was getting his hopes up. He took a deep breath, half to work up a bit of nerve, and half because he'd never held hands with anyone before and it was a little exhilirating. It was with Tommy, anyway.
"I want to go with you...please believe that. I do. It's just..." Angel trailed off, trying to figure out how to word what he needed to say. "I don't even really care about the jocks really. I mean I don;t wanna get beat up...but they like you, right? So maybe that wouldn't happen. It's just...god, if my father found out I was here with you, right now...he'd kick me out," Angel swallowed deeply. "That's the only reason."
Angel listened to Tommy's suggestion, a small smile working onto his face. "We could do that..." he said quietly.

Collins stared at their hands and breathed in as their skin touched. It was so simple of an action. There was nothing to it, he was sure. Angel was just being friendly. Afterall, he did just back out of the dance. He looked up at Angel eager to learn what was going on in his head.
"They beat you up?" Tommy asked with a deep frown. "Just give me names and I'll go give them a stern talking to...or steal their clothes while they're in the shower. And yeah...they kinda have to acknowledge me. But at the same time they kinda think I'm a traitor for leaving football...and once they get wind of me...in the locker room with them. I really don't know how they'd react. But Benny said he'd watch my back, and I can transfer that to you."
Tommy blinked a few times. "It's your Dad? Well...I don't think he'd find out. Unless he was spying on you...but I understand." Even after knowing Angel for a few hours, Tommy was already growing a healthy hate for his father. "We can?" Tommy's frown turned upside down. "I'll look forward to that."
He gathered up his courage, and gently turned his hand around to clasp Angel's into his.

"Well...there was nobody in particular...yet. But...I sometimes feel...like they look at me and they just know. I do know how stupid that seems, by the way," he said quietly, finding a comfort in Tommy's hand. But he was still wondering...were they just friends? Or did Tommy want more?
"Yeah...you're probably right, I mean...I guess I'm probably just being overly...cautious. Or something," Angel exhaled deeply, rubbing his hand against Tommy's darker one gently. He liked the way it felt. He liked how it all felt; being there with Tommy, holding his hand...being asked out...it was all...it was good. Any inhibitions he had were slowly being shed, and suddenly his father and the jocks and nothing in the world was on his mind except him and Tommy. And he loved it.
Angel squeezed Tommy's hand gently, his heart pounding a bit faster and the blush he'd been trying to keep down was slowly coming back up. "I'd actually...I'd really like that," he said quietly, trying to fight the smile that was coming onto his face.

Tommy nodded understanding him. He didn't want to say that most of it was probably in Angel's head. There had to be a nicer way of putting that. He shrugged. "It's not stupid. But I can guarentee you that most of their minds...it usually isn't on that type of stuff. Unless...they're feeling the need to prove themselves to each other. But usually they're too busy worshipping themselves and the cheerleaders. No offense Benny," He added under his breath.
Tommy felt warmer the moment Angel rubbed his hand. If that simple movement was that nice...then how would it be to kiss him. Ok...stop thinking about that. "Being safer than sorry isn't a bad thing Angel. But if you ever change your mind I'm still offering it. The just dancing is perfect with me too. It's all up to you." Is Angel blushing?

"Probably..." Angel shrugged one shoulder. Tommy was right. As much as it seemed like they were reading his mind, they probably barely knew his name. Angel smiled at Tommy and looked down as he felt a few butterflies flying around in his stomach. No one had ever affected him in that way...and he was actually saying no? Or trying to?
"Know what?" Angel aksed, and the words were out before he'd quite realized he'd opened his mouth. "Let's do it. I mean, we don't have to be in anybody's face or anything...but..." Angel trailed off, looking to the senior.

Tommy felt like he could probably do a sommersault. He sat up straighter, his shoulders fell back and of course he smiled from ear to ear. "Really? That would be great. Yeah...yeah not in their faces. We don't have to wear shirts or something that explain our situation. But you know...just go. And have fun. Cause I'm sure we'll have fun...but I gotta warn you, I'm not the hottest dancer on the dance floor."
"And if you're worried about your Dad still...we could say that we're going as friends. Or we could meet up there...whatever you wanna do," Collins said nodding. So we're going as more than just friends...I hope he's..ok with that.

"Yeah...I'm sorry. I guess...I was just a little...worried is all. I mean, if he found out..." Angel didn;t finish. Tommy knew, and the younger boy just really didn't feel like getting into it. Not now...he'd beem asked out. Tommy liked him. They were still holding hands. He didn't want to think about his father, or anything else except Tommy. "Don't worry, I'm sure you're fine...and even if you're not, I don't mind," Angel assured him, imagining dancing with Tommy. He had to wonder how close they would get, infront of all those people...nobody else matters. Stop thinking about them, Angel reminded himself.
"Would you mind if we met there? Just in case..." Angel suggested hopefully.

Tommy shook his head. "No...don't apologize. I understand. I think I would have reacted the same if I was in your shoes. It really is ok." Anyway, all that mattered was that Angel finally said yes. And that they would go to the dance together. Everything else was just trimmings.
"I'll try to avoid your feet," Tommy said winking at him. "No, don't worry. I don't step on toes that often. I always tried to look cool when I was dancing. And a few of my friends said in so many words that I just looked ridicoulus. So now I usually skip the whole attempt to look cool and go right for the ridicoulus," He admitted looking over at their hands. He knew that he should pull his hand away. Finish his ice cream. Give Angel some personal space, but....it felt too nice to pull away.
"Not at all," Tommy said shaking his head. "I'll wait for you outside of the gym...unless you wanna just meet inside so we're not making an entrance together." That would be just a little bit more obvious.

"Thanks for understanding," Angel said with a small smile. His icecream was gonna melt soon, but hew was unwilling to move his hand from Tommy's. It was even better than he'd thought it would be. He'd never been the type to cry into his pillow because he wasn't attatched. But he'd always thought...he was just naive enough to think that maybe, maybe there really was one person out there for everybody. But as soon as that thought came to his mind, Angel knew he was thinking ahead just a bit too much. They were barely even together. They hadn't even kissed...they were holding hands at an icecream place. And going to homecoming together, his brain protested, but he quickly told that part to be quiet and focus on the task at hand.
"I'm sure you'll be fine...and if not, I'll guide you," Angel said with a soft smile. He didn't have a huge amount of experience in dancing...aside from that that he'd done behind closed doors and would ecrtainly not come out to the general public anytime soon. He'd never danced with a partner. But Angel had no trouble finding a beat and keeping to it. Dancing couldn't be that much harder, right?
"Thanks..it's just...he might suspect more if you pick me up. Plus, you don't know where I live," Angel pointed out with a smile. He thought about the suggestions...sure, they'd seem less like a couple if they met in the gym...but...were they a couple? Kind of, right? They were going together...that made them a couple at least for the dance. Angel ignored the little jump of his heart he felt at that thought. "No...meeting outside is fine with me," he said finally, the smile growing.

"You're welcome...and now that I think about it, I really hope you'll guide me...cause if your my date than that might reflect poorly on you," Tommy teased his face feeling hotter at the mention of Angel being his date. It was actually happening. So much for this being one of the worst days of his life. It was turning out to be one of the best ones.
"Outside it is then," Tommy said flashing his teeth in a deep smile. Perfect.
Then with some thought Tommy added,"You know...Angel if...if you ever don't wanna be there...with your dad I mean...you can come to my house ok?" Tommy said with concern in his eyes. Sure, Tommy was scared of telling his parents. He was always wondering if they would be supportive or disappointed. But one this was for sure, he wasn't scared of them. He knew that his parents would come around, or just ignore him...which would be fine to him. But Angel...he seemed frightened of his father and what he would say. Tommy refused to jump to conclusions or even think about such things, but he had to give Angel the option. Just in case, he didn't want Angel to ever feel alone. "Here..." Tommy looked at their hands. He didn't want to part but he had to. After a pause, Tommy squeezed Angel's hand before releasing it. Tommy pulled up his book bag and ripped out a piece of paper. "Here...my number and my address...if you ever need it." Or me. "We have a nice futon in the basement that you could crash on. And it's a finished basement so it's not like we'd be throwing you into the dungeon. It's nice. If you ever need it..."

"I'll guide you. It's really not that hared...once you get the hang of it, it's cake," Angel assured him with a small smile, tilting her head. "You look like you'd be a good dancer...I'm sure you'll do fine."
Angel was caught a bit off guard. Sure, he'd thought about it...there was once or twice where he'd been inches close to just going to Mimi's for a few hours to just...calm down. Especially when the man got on one of his rants. But if Angel was going to stay somewhere overnight...it would probably mean he probably wouldn't be welcome in the morning, either. Or for a very long time. If it got so bad that he had to stay somewere overnight, he probably wouldn't be welcome agains until he got married to a woman, had a baby, basically surrendered himself to conformation, to his father's ideas of normalcy. That just wasn't what he wanted to do with his life.
"Are you sure?" Angel asked, frowing a little as he lost the comfort of Tommy's hand. "I mean, it's a generous offer, but I wouldn't want to burden you, or your parents..."

Tommy smirked and shrugged. "You'll see. After I do the running man, the cabbage patch, and then the sprinkler for an hour...you'll see. Or hopefully you'll cure me," He said with an air of hope in his voice.
"Of course, I'm sure. I wouldn't have offered it if I wasn't," Tommy pointed out taking hold of his melting ice cream cone again. It was a poor substitute for Angel's hand, but it would have to do. Anyway, it was almost melting all over his hand. He wanted to at least get his money worth. "Angel, I've only known you for a day now...but I don't really ever see you being a burden. Except maybe if you take long in the bathroom...which would be ok anyway cause the basement has it's own bathroom." Tommy teased hoping to get Angel to smile again. He really liked it when that happened. "So really...don't worry about it. And it's an offer that I hope you won't have to take up...I mean...not that I wouldn't want you to come over some time...you know what I mean." With a sigh he went back to eating his ice cream. He really did hope that Angel's father would come around. For Angel's sake.

"The running man?" Angel's jaw dropped. "Okay, you know I like you and all, but please...refrain from that tonight?" he asked, a small laugh bubbling up. "I'll teach you a better way...just...no running man," he winked.
"Well...thank you," Angel said quietly, putting the slip into his pocket and grabbing a napkin to try to get rid of some of the melting ice cream. There was no point in arguing. If Tommy was sure, and he'd made it clear that he was, then Angel wpuld give it some thought. "No...I know what you mean...thank you," he said, the smile slowly returning to his face. He was still in a bit of shock at how much he trusted Tommy, in less than a day...but he wasn't going to slow it down.

Tommy bit his lip trying not to laugh too hard. "See...I told you. I promise I'll do my best to avoid embaressing you. I'm eager to learn the better way. Very eager. Though one running man might have to sneak in. Just one though. I don't know if it can be helped. It's kinda my signature horrible move..." He paused and then smirked. "You sure you still wanna go with the likes of me?"
"You're welcome. The least I can do really," Tommy said with a more sober tone. He was just sorry that Angel had to go through this as it was. "So...are you an only child or do you have some brothers and sisters?" He asked wondering if Angel had back up if he needed it.

"Okay...one running man. You're on a limit. And don't be offended if I have to go to the bathroom at that point," Angel upressed a laugh, taking a bite if icecream. "Nah...I think I'll live. One running man will be worth it," he said with a small smile.
"I have one sister, Anna...she's actually a senior, too," Angel replied. "We're pretty close...how about you? Any siblings?" he asked, genuinely interested. He hadn't even noticed it, but once he thought about it, he barely knew anything about Tommy, really.
