"Guess not," said Cathrine with a sigh, taking a cracker from Gloria and chewing it quietly. She wasn't that hungry, but, what was she supposed to say? She felt sorry for Penny...but, she had no clue what to say to her. She never had to dealt with this; what could she say? The akward silence soon became too much. She had to say SOMETHING. She never liked silence.
"So," said Cathrine, smilling weakly, "I guess this is why your parent's won't drive you?"

Penny decided against taking a cracker. She wasn't all that hungry, anyway. She drummed her fingers on the table, trying to think of that new song that had been playing in her head all day. She had just gotten into songwriting, most of them about her heartache being in this life. She wanted to scream out and possibly break away from everything that she had to suffer through. Penny frowned softly at Cathrine's question. "Partly yes. They're also really busy."

Cathrine finished off the cracker and nodded in understandment to Penny's answer. Well...she didn't really understand...her life was like a complete new world. She didn't like it...she wanted to go back to the world she knew where parents loved thier kids.
"Is your mom the same as him?" she asked. So..maybe it wasn't always that bad...maybe, just maybe Penny's mom loved her.

Penny now knew that a small tear was rolling down her cheek. She internally cursed herself for letting that bit of weakness show. Not wanting to say anything, she just nodded. Yes, my parents are both like this. I'm not good enough, not for them. I want them to love me, but I'm losing hope.
Then there was the sound of a honking horn outside the house. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she said, "That's my cousin. Let's go." With that, she opened the door to see April's forest green station wagon.

Cathrine noticed Penny's tears and stood there akwardly. What was she gonna do? She was TERRIBLE at comforting people. When Penny nodded she said a small, "I'm sorry..." WHat else could she say anyway?
She sighed in realif as she heard the car honking inturpting the akward silence. "Ya," she said and followed Penny out the door.
She stoped as she notcied the person in the car. It was April.
"She's your cousin?" she asked Penny.

April climbed out of the car and stood on the lawn before catching a sight of the two people on the doorstep. There was Penny who seemed like she had been crying and then...Cathrine?! Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. There was no way that that was the friend Penny mentioned, but that seemed like the only explanation. However, that also meant that it was almost inevitable that Cathrine was the cause of her cousin's tears. It was either that or her parents. Her fists clenched, because either way, she was really ticked off.
Penny internally groaned at April's expression. She was always so upset and protective whenever she saw her upset. It was really unneccessary honestly. Penny could take care of herself, whether April believed it or not. At Cathrine's question, she raised an eyebrow. "Yes...you know her?" she asked. She suddenly realized that April was also glaring at Cathrine. Her eyes widened as well. Oh God, they hate each other! "Umm...girls, listen, can you not fight, please?"

Cathrine crossed her arms and glared at April. THis was not gonna be fun. But, she she wasn't gonna let April ruin her good time, no way.
"Oh don't worry," she told Penny, still glaring at April, "I'm not gonna let her ruin my good time..." Which meant she had to not comment on the horrible outfit she was wearing. She bit her lips, trying not to say anything. It was really hard, her outfit was pretty bad.

Penny raised an eyebrow. That wasn't quite what she meant. She was about to tell Cathrine this before April's voice came out through her gnashed teeth. "All right...I want to know why my little cousin is crying and I want to know now," she said in a dangerously low voice. Penny's eyes widened as she wondered why April would think Cathrine would make her cry. She wasn't that bad, was she?
April tapped her fingers on her arm, some bits of the chipped purple nail polish falling off. She was deadly serious about this whole thing. If Cathrine hurt Penny in anyway at all, she was going to pay. Her nails were pretty damn sharp and she was willing to gauge her eyes out if need be. The bitch deserved it anyway. Might be a good learning experience for her really.

"Hey!" said Cathrine, crossing her arms, "I didn't make her cry...it was her dumb parents! I broke a vase and something possesed her to take the blame and, apparantly, her parent's think every little mistake she makes makes her a disapointment."

April's eyes widened. "You broke a vase." It wasn't a question, but a statement of shock. Of course, she didn't expect Penny to explain the lousy situation at home, but still...Cathrine should've realized they'd be strict. "And the reason Penny took the blame was because she's a decent person, didn't want you to get in trouble and besides, those crazies would've yelled at her anyway." Her fists clenched. What she wouldn't give to give her aunt and uncle a piece of her mind.
"All right! Fighting isn't going to help!" Penny snapped, going in between the two people. Sighing, she glanced back and forth. "Look, I don't know what history you guys have, but can you please try to put your differences aside?" She gave April the sad eyes she was famous for.

"Yes," said Cathrine crossing her arms and glaring, "I broke a vase....It was pretty so I wanted to go closer and see it and I knocked the table and the vase fell...so sue me and I DID want to tell the truth..." she said
"Hm..." said Cathrine a little grudgnily and had to fight not to say, 'and I'm not?'
"She already told me that," said Cathrine, "'Cus apparantly, they yell at her for everything..." she didn't know why she sounded mad at that fact...she shouldn't be mad because Penny's parent's were idiots...she didn't know why she was so upset.
"Fine," said Cathrine, rolling her eyes.

April rolled her eyes at the way Cathrine was looking at her. Who was she to think she was any better than anyone else anyway? If anyone, April should've been madder to have to deal with the little brat that was getting closer and closer to a suite in Hell. Still, Penny's look was so pleading...she let out a groan. "Okay, okay. I won't claw her eyes out."
"April!" Penny said in a high pitched voice. She only got that high if she was worried and stressed. This was really stressing her out. She loved April and she wanted to be friends with Cathrine. She didn't want them to fight the whole way.
April lifted her hands up. "I was kidding!" she said quickly, sensing Penny's anxiety. Then Cathrine had her little spheel about the Mezzello's. Okay...she actually sounds mad... April raised an eyebrow. Could it be that she actually felt some sympathy?!

[inserted from 'Dropping Off The Midget']
Lilly picked up Jonas and carried him around as she thought of what she could do. As she'd practically skipped half of the school day, she'd been able to finish all of her assigned homework (she'd get a free pass on the stuff that she missed). After a few minutes of pacing and bouncing Jonas, she remembered that she'd asked April to talk to Dwayne today. Hopefully she'd gotten around to it by now. Setting Jonas down on the couch, she picked up the portable phone in the kitchen and dialed April.
One ring...two rings...three...."Hey, April?"

Were April less evolved, she would've growled and proceeded to show Cathrine that, yes, she was more than capable of clawing her eyes out. While she told Penny she was kidding, she really wasn't. She just said that because the last thing she wanted was for her beloved cousin to have a panic attack. She had seen what happened when Penny got too stressed out; she never wanted to see that again.
Then Cathrine was, quite literally, saved by the bell. Or in this case, a Pat Benetar ringtone. "Just get in the car," she muttered before answering it. "Hello?" She was too angry to give her usual greeting.
Penny obediently began to walk toward it, nodding for Cathrine to follow her. All the while, her head was spinning with what had just happened. She had no idea that April hated Cathrine so much. But she seemed so nice...but April didn't hate people for no reason. Wringing her hands as she climbed into the car, she tried hard to calm herself down.
