Cathrine stood at the door of the Mezzeloes, looking at the house. Penny told her they would have to wait here untill her cousin came back from Smitty's to drive them to the mall.
"How long do you think your cousin will be at Smitty's?" Cathrine asked Penny to pass the time.

Penny bit her lip and shrugged. "I'm not sure. She said she might be a while. Plus, I think I kind of floored her with the fact that I'm actually going shopping," she responded with a light smirk. She would have asked if she wanted to go in, but there was no way she was showing people how her parents were. They'd probably think she was crazy for putting up with it. Maybe she was.

"Oh," said Cathrine.
"Wait," said Cathrine, looking at Penny in confusion, "WHy would you floor her by that? You don't usually go shopping? But you dress so nicely..."
How else could she have gotten those nice clothes besides shopping? It made no sense to her.

Penny shrugged. "Actually, not really. Or when I do, my parents never let me go on my own," she explained. "They pretty much think that I'll pick out something horrendous and embarrass them." Her parents acted that way with most things involving Penny's presentation. She was sure she was better than they thought, but she couldn't exactly convince them otherwise. But when they saw Cathrine, they trusted her, at the very least. They probably think she's just like all the other brats... she thought, referring to the many "friends" her parents tried to get Penny to meet.

"They don't let you go by yourself?" said Cathrine, confused. That was kinda dumb. WHy wouldn't they let her go by herself? She then giggled a bit when she said it was because her parent's thought she'd pick out something bad. THey must be those parent's who can't see thier kids are grown up and can pick things out by themselves.
"SO," she said, "They're those kinda parents who can't see you're grown up and can pick things out by yourself?"

Penny considered that question for a moment and then smiled. Why let her know the truth? "Yeah, that's about it." Fake smiles were Penny's specialty. People actually believed she was happy when she smiled. Oh, if only they knew. Also, if only her parents were the way that Cathrine thought. At least those parents showed any type of love for their kids. As far as she knew, she was a mistake in her parents' eyes.

Cathrine giggled. "YOu should talk to them..." said Cathrine, "Try to convince them that you can pick out your own clothes...you don't need thier help any more...I mean, if ya say nothing, you're gonna end up a 17 year old whose parent's still pick out thier clothes..."

Penny let out a chuckle, just as fake as her smile. "Oh, I've tried. They don't like listening to me." Actually, whenever I try to have my own opinions, they tell me to be quiet and to know my place. Everything inside her was screaming for Penny to tell the truth and to plead to be able to be rescued, as melodramatic as it sounded.

Cathrine giggled. "Parents," she said, "THey never understand, do they?" She sighed...it was getting to hot out here; she felt herself sweat a bit...ew!
"Can we go inside?" she asked, "I'm begging to sweat...and I don't want to go to the mall all sweaty."

Penny paled a bit at Cathrine's question. She had expected this to happen, but she didn't want it to. How was she going to keep her away? Oh who am I fooling? I couldn't. She'd think I was nuts and I'd have to jump through hoops to explain it all. "Yeah, sure," she responded reluctantly, standing up and opening the door. Maybe her parents would be too busy to criticize. "Come on in."

"Thank you," said Cathrine with realif and let herself in. She blinked a bit, a bit surprised at what she saw. The inside of the house looked untouched. It was clean...to clean. It looked like a brand new house that no one had moved into yet.
"Are your parents...cleaning nuts or something?" she asked.

Penny smiled weakly. She was used to that reaction, honestly. "More like they fire any maid who leaves a speck of dust on the tables," she responded casually, walking in and running a hand over the coffee table. "Speaking of which, are you hungry? Thirsty? I could get Gloria...."

Cathrine giggled. "Oh," she said, assuming Penny was joking. Her parents would be very OCD if that were really true.
"I'm fine," Cathrine said, "WHose Gloria? Your sister?"

Penny raised an eyebrow at Cathrine's giggling. She wasn't sure what was funny, but brushed it off. If she could make people laugh, she was fine. "Oh, no. I don't have any siblings." And good too. I wouldn't wish this on anyone... "She's our maid. You want me to get her?"

"Oh," said Cathrine, "Lucky...," she said with a small pout, "I don't have a maid...I'm fine though.." she said. She looked around the house boredly. Her eyes feel upon a vase on a table. It looked really fragile...she wondered how much it coasts.
"So," she asked Penny, walking to vase to get a good view of it, "Where are your parents anyway?"
"THis has to be the most prettiest vase I've seen," she said with a smile as she walked closer to it. Then, before she knew it, she walked to close, bumping into the table holding the vase and it smashed into a million pieces.
Cathrine gasped. SHe had just destroyed a really expensive and really valuable vase! "Shit!" she said, "I'm sorry."
