"Hey, April? It's me," Lilly answered into the phone, although this time more tentatively. April sounded pretty pissed, and she didn't want to push any buttons by nagging her. She valued her friendships, thank you very much. "Um, I was just wanting to ask you about, um, that you were going to talk to...you know, you-know-who, but if now's not a good time..." She looked over her shoulder at a now-napping Jonas, and turned her attentions back to the phone.

April blinked and let out a weak smile upon recognizing Lilly's voice. "Oh hey hon," she answered, sounding a little less hostile. After all, it wasn't her fault that Penny really had to get better at making friends. With a tired expression, she listened to Lilly, only remembering then that she had spoken to her old friend. She got so mad at Cathrine that she had forgotten. The moment Lilly suggested to call some other time, April shook her head and her free hand. "Oh, no, no, no. Don't worry, it's nothing. My cousin just shook hands with spawn of the Devil, is all."
Letting out a sigh to clear her head, a small smirk traced April's lips. "Well...I tried to start the conversation casually, so we could catch him off guard right? Then I brought you guys up. I swear, I've never seen him smile that widely." She paused to hear her friend's reaction before continuing.

Lilly sighed of relief when April brought her voice back to normal. She just must have been going through something not entirely calming, which Lilly totally understood. Luckily, April could talk, and she felt a little thrill of excitement. She most likely had an answer for her. Hopefully it was a good one. "The spawn of the Devil?" she asked, stopping her pacing for a moment. "Oh wait, you mean Cathrine, right? What's she doing with Penny?"
Lilly listened intently as April went into her story of the afternoon, and felt an oncoming swarm of butterflies when she talked about his reaction. "Mmmhm? Go on," she encouraged, wanting to hear every little detail her friend could remember.

April suddenly felt horrid when Lilly sighed of relief. She must have sounded really angry. No wonder Penny almost had a panic attack over this. Stupid, stupid April, she mentally cursed herself before she began pacing around the lawn. She didn't care if her aunt and uncle decided that it was now horrible to walk on the grass. They'd just have to get a taste of what they had coming if they crossed her.
"The one and only," April said, a slight hint of bitterness in her tone as she momentarily glared daggers toward her car. At least she knew where the bitch was sitting and therefore wouldn't send them to Penny. "And they're shopping. Shopping! Penny might as well have become blood sisters with that evil little...ugh!" April took a deep breath before her rant went any further. "Sorry about that...anyway...moving onto Dwayne..."
April thought for a minute, bringing herself back to the conversation. She held in a giggle at Lilly's request for her to go on. It certainly seemed like they were sharing some strong emotion, even if her intuition was wrong about it being love. "Well...after I said how I had never seen either one of you two this happy, Dwayne just started talking and talking about how amazing he thinks you are and how badly he wants to make this one relationship work." Her voice was now slightly sing song, and April wasn't sure why. But it was fun!

Lilly stuck her tongue out disgustedly (although April couldn't see) at her confirmation that Cathrine was going around with Penny. "Like, even I'd be willing to take Penny out to lunch or something to keep her from the clutches of Cathrine," Lilly agreed. "I hope the two of them don't, you know, get all buddy-buddy. And yes, please do move on. I'm quite eager."
Okay, so maybe this wasn't fair to Dwayne, all the stepping around and getting April to do the talking for her. But it sure made for good phone conversations. "Oh, you stop. He did not. You're just saying that," Lilly denied, and her cheeks were a very vivid color of pink. "Did he really?" she asked, this time more meekly.

April sighed of relief at Lilly's remark. "Please do! I'm not even kidding; this girl needs friends besides me, but I'd rather it not be Cathrine. You should've seen how surprised she looked when she saw the glares Cathrine and I were sending each other. Cathrine must've pulled a nice act because Penny's rich." It took a great deal of effort for April to not clench her fists. The fact that the bigoted, spoiled, self centered person who had been her arch enemy for quite some time was trying to be all buddy buddy with her little cousin was enough to make her blood boil over. Hopefully Penny would see the bitch's true colors soon.
April's smirk widened at Lilly's reaction. It was fun listening to girls who had their first boyfriends; if they were like Lilly, they were so modest. But April was willing to swear it on her great aunt's grave that Dwayne had said it. The boy was whipped, that was for sure. If something was going to confirm that Dwayne was going to stick to Lilly for as long as he could, it was that conversation. "He did, he did. I swear, it was almost like he wasn't talking to me anymore, but mostly to the whole world. Like he really wanted the fact that he's insane about you known everywhere. Which is exactly something I'd imagine he'd do if he was in love."

"Well, she needs a friend, period. Does she think that her mom and dad won't even let her have friends? Poor kid! Her leash isn't that tight, is it?" Lilly could be annoyed by her parents sometimes (especially her dad) but they weren't half as bad as Penny's parents. "Cathrine is being a dumbass. Does she really think that Penny won't figure her out? She's not a dumb kid, April." She rolled her eyes and pulled idly at the buttons on the television remote as she spoke to April.
Lilly's blush only deepened and spread to her forehead and nose when April went on. There was absolutely no way that Dwayne could really be like that. At all. He seemed too...nah, that didn't seem like something he'd do. "Oh...continue, if you could? Details, maybe?" This way, she'd be able to figure it out better for herself.

April scoffed at Lilly's response that Penny needed friends. That was the most obvious thing out there. "Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd disapprove anyone short of a millionaire kid who's a star dancer or something like that," she said, her blood boiling even more. She despised her aunt and uncle, no matter what her mother said. "Be glad you'll never have to run into them for stupid family functions."
"Exactly! Penny's going to figure it all out soon enough. She's a fricking genius, really. Or at least she could be if she wasn't always so stressed out," April remarked, now gesturing wildly. Mainly because she was so upset over this whole situation. "If I knew that it was Cathrine, I would've told Penny to get herself out of that hornet's nest for God's sake!" April sighed. "Gah, I've gotta stop doing that. I get too protective."
"Hmm...what sort of details do you have in mind?" April asked, tilting her head. She wasn't good at details, really. Unless she was reading them. Then she was pretty good with them.

Cathrine made a small sigh of annoyance as April's cellphone rang. She hoped it didn't take too long. Sitting in April's car waiting to go shopping wasn't her idea of fun. Waiting to go shopping in genereal wan't her idea of fun. She boredly listened to the convo going on with April and...whoever she was talking too.
Her mouth then opened wide. Dwayne? Did April say Dwayne...she was talking to Lilly! She scowled a bit and then crossed her arms as she heard the rest of the conversation. Penny would figure her out and needed to make better friends? Ok....she was actually being competley sencere thourghout the whole time she was with Penny and was pissed April didn't think so. She really shouldn't of been surprised about what April said, but for some reason it almost...well hurt a little for April to think she was just out to get everybody.
And oh gee! What would ever give her that idea? That little annoying voice in her head told her. She frowned...stupid conscience...she could usually ignore it to.
"You do realize April's totally lying, right?" she asked Penny hopefully.

Lilly kept one eye on Jonas as she talked on the phone. "Well, you're entitled to be protective. You're related. As much as Mark gets on my nerves sometimes and needs to take the stick out of his ass, he's still my brother."
Lilly shrugged sheepishly. "Really, any and every detail you could possibly remember. Like as if I had asked him myself, only...been as brave as to actually do so." She wasn't exactly at the point in her life where she could go forth and ask. Unfortunately for her, she had to get all of her information through another source-- April.

Penny simply stared out the window that was closest. Oh please let this go smoothly, please oh, please oh, please, she thought desperately, barely aware of her surroundings. She had thought this would just be a fun outing and it was becoming the beginnings of what could be World War III. She knew that none of this was her fault, but she still felt like it was.
Then Cathrine asked her a very odd question that brought her back to reality. "What? April doesn't lie..." she said slowly, raising an eyebrow. "But what are you talking about?"
April nodded indignantly. "I should think so. And I agree on the matter regarding Mark. Be that as it may, remember that I can knock some sense in him if it's necessary," she responded, glad to be getting on another tangent. The last thing she wanted to think about was the high level of evil that was in her car right now.
April smirked lightly. "You know how cute you two are being? I can hardly stand it. On the plus side, you're preparing me to become immuned to Angel and Collins' cuteness. At least to the level that I'll be able to watch them without exploding into puppies and rainbows. Anyway...I mentioned how big of a smile he had on his face? I thought his face was going to split."

"Oh, good. I needed somebody else to help me fight in the battle against the stick in Mark's ass. He's finally loosening up about Dwayne a little, thank god," Lilly said, sighing a little. It was good to not just be talking about their common enemy, Cathrine, for once.
"How cute we're being?" Lilly repeated, feeling a little incredulous. If she were to make a list of all of her most prominent traits, 'cute' would most definitely not make the list. "And you can hardly stand it. Huh." She took a minute to pause and think about it. It still didn't make sense. "Oh, that one," Lilly agreed, recognizing the symptoms. "Yeah, I think I've seen that one. So tell me something I didn't already know, April!"

"April never lies?" Cathrine said, her mouth agape. What the heck was that girl talking about...she was lying to herself right now by thinking that oufit she was wearing was decent and could be worn outside!
"She's lying right now," said Cathrine, "You know...me being evil and wanting to be your friend is a trick?"
Was that girl even listening to the phone call at all? If not, she'd feel VERY dumb for bringing that up when it could've just been ignored and Penny wouldn't even of known what April thought about her.

"Oh, goody. What, have they had a civil conversation or something?" April asked, suddenly quite interested in hearing about whether or not Dwayne and Mark would ever be able to get along. Really, if it weren't for the whole "he's dating my sister and therefore he must die" thing, Mark and Dwayne would probably have gotten along rather well. One walked around with a video camera, the other walked around with a photographic camera. They both could be pretty funny when they wanted to be and most importantly, they were both her friends. If she had her way, all of her friends would be friends with each other, so this would be one step closer.
April blinked at Lilly's response. "What, it's so hard to believe? It's true! I've definitely come close to squealing my brains out," she insisted, shaking her head. Apparently, Lilly hadn't seen the reactions both she and Dwayne had received as of yet. Then she frowned. "Hey, I'm trying here Lill! It's not like I'm as observant as your boyfriend and besides, I only got to talk to him for like, ten minutes."
Penny's jaw dropped at Cathrine's response. "Wait, what?!" She hadn't heard a word of what April was saying and now hearing it from Cathrine's mouth got the wheels spinning underneath all that red hair. "She...she wouldn't have said that if she didn't have a reason Cathrine..." Now dread was twisting in her stomach. What on earth had she gotten herself into?
