Lilia pulled away from Eric as he spoke. She didn't want his comfort. Not now, anyways. "You don't get it. You're trying to make decisions for me, and it isn't your choice to make. It's my body," Lilia replied. She shook her head. "Besides, no one says you have to miss out on college. There's no law to make you stick around," she shot, her voice full of venom.

Eric backed away when Lilia pulled away from him, trying to take in exactly what she was telling him. "I know it's your body, Lilia, but I should have some say in this, too!" he exclaimed, "It's my -" he couldn't bring himself to say the word, "It's mine, too, like it or not. We're both in this together, and we have to decide this together."

"You don't have to be involved if you don't like my decision. But no matter what you may think, I can't get past the idea that this is going to be a baby in nine months. I can't do that, Eric," she told him. "If you don't like it, fine. I'll worry about everything myself." Lilia got up off of the couch and started towards the door.

Eric stood quickly, running to Lilia and grabbing her arm, pulling her back toward him. "Lilia," he said, desperately, "Don't leave, please. We need to talk about this. You can't do it alone. I... I'm not going to leave you, but we have to think about everything." His eyes pleaded with her to stay with him, at least a little longer. He didn't want her to leave angry, and he wanted to find some way to get through this.

Lilia took a deep breath before turning to face him. She looked up into his eyes as she spoke. "If you want to be involved, that's fine. But abortion isn't an option. I'm not going to put myself through that kind of hell just because it's more convenient," she said. She sighed and walked back over to the couch, sitting down. "What are we going to do? We've got to tell our moms. I know mine is going to flip out over this."

Following Lilia to the couch, Eric ran his hands through his hair again, sure it looked like hell by now. "Why isn't it an option, Lil?" he asked as he sat beside her, "Neither of us want this. We don't want our parents to know... that's an easy way to solve it. Then we don't have to worry!"

Lilia shook her head. "Eric, my mother would be even more upset if she found out we hid something like that from her. Neither of us has the money to pay for it, anyway. Besides the fact that it's dangerous," Lilia replied. "I don't want to do that, Eric. I don't want to run that risk. I would much rather my mother be furious at me for a few weeks than have something go wrong and make her hate me for life." She took a deep breath and pushed away some of the tears in her eyes. "I knew a girl back in Virginia... she got pregnant and didn't want her parents to find out, so she got an abortion, only the doctor she went to wasn't exactly a licensed medical professional. She ended up like the girl in Dirty Dancing, only a lot worse. She ended up in the hospital for a long time, and she almost didn't make it. I don't want to end up that way, Eric."

In Eric's mind, their parents wouldn't find out what they had done. That was the point of the abortion, so no one had to know. They could just go on like nothing had happened, and only the two of them would know they'd screwed up. But Lilia obviously didn't see it the way he did, and he wondered if he'd be able to convince her.
Lilia's story made Eric swallow hard, instinctively wrapping his arms around her, not wanting to imagine something like that happening to her. He wouldn't let it. "we wouldn't go to a place like that," he assured her, "We'd look into it and make sure you'd be safe, I swear. I'd never let anything happen to you. Never."

Lilia shook her head and pushed Eric away. "How would we pay for it, Eric? Neither of us has a job, in case you've forgotten," Lilia replied. She sighed. "I just don't want to risk it. Things happen; doctors, real doctors, make mistakes all the time. There's still always going to be the chance that something could go wrong, no matter what we decide." She took Eric's hand. "Like I said before, if that's what you want, I'll do this myself. But I'm not going to put myself through something like that, even if it does mean I ruin my future. You've got to understand that."

Eric sighed when Lilia pushed him away again. He just wanted to hold her. He was confused and upset and he needed her comfort. But he supposed she was feeling even worse than he was right now. He tried to remember that, but it wasn't easy. All he could think about was how much this was going to mess up his life. And yet, he knew he wouldn't leave her to handle it on her own. He wasn't that kind of person.
"Lil, I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going to leave you on your own with this. I just... want you to consider it. We could find a way to pay for it..." But in his heart, Eric knew that she wasn't going to give in. It just wasn't something she was willing to do.

Lilia shook her head and sighed. "No, Eric. It isn't happening; end of discussion," Lilia replied. She dropped his hand and sighed again. "We need to figure out what we're going to do. We've got to tell our moms. I dread to know how that conversation is going to go, but it has to be done," Lilia said, trying to think of everything that would have to be done.

Lilia was right, Eric knew. If she was intent on keeping this... baby... they would have to tell their parents. He wasn't looking forward to that prospect. Sighing, he clasped his hands together in his lap, fidgeting as he tried to think of what he would say. "Well," he conceded, "If that's what we're going to do, we should start with my mom. She'll probably be... calmer."

Lilia smiled, glad that Eric had finally decided to drop the subject and focus on what they needed to do. "Let's hope so. If it goes poorly with her, it'll make it that much harder to tell my mom," Lilia replied. She sighed. "I don't have any idea of how to say something like that. I don't want your mom to hate me."

It wasn't going to be easy at all. With Eric's mom, he knew he'd probably just come right out and say it; there was no sense in beating around the bush. With Lilia's... they'd probably have to really plan out exactly what they were going to say. Eric looked at Lilia and tried to offer her an encouraging smile. "She won't hate you, Lil," he assured her, "That'll be reserved for me. I'm the one who took advantage of you, after all." He sighed. He knew that was exactly how his mother was going to see it.

Lilia shook her head. "I didn't exactly tell you no, Eric. It's just as much my fault as it is yours, after all," she reasoned. "When is your mom going to get home? I want to get this over with as quickly as possible."
