"Oh I see, well either way, I'd love to meet your cousin," He said. "Her parents wouldn't mind? Would they even care?" He asked slightly annoyed on hearing that. He wasn't usually the one to get annoyed but when it comes to things like family, well he gets pretty annoyed. Especially since his father walked out on them and his sister's real parents left their daughter.

April winced. There was no point in beating about the bush. "No, they wouldn't. They don't give a damn about her. I mean...they feed her and all, but..." She walked out, pausing as she searched for the right words. "To them, perfection is more important than loving her. They seem better for collecting porcelain dolls than being actual parents."

He sighed, "Sorry to hear that. At least, they feed her and not abuse her or anything. A parent's love is something every kid deserves." He frowned then looked at her, "But she has a great cousin like you who will always care for her."

April smiled softly at Roger's words. "Thank you...and yeah, at least she has me. I don't want to know what would happen to her if it weren't for me" she admitted, placing her hands in her pockets. "So anyway, we'll get going. Just so you know, she's actually thirteen already...skipped ahead and everything, so you might have seen her around. The only reason I 'sit' for her is...well, again, her parents are horrible."

"Yea at least she has you," He smiled. "So she would be a freshmen, hm not sure. Maybe my sister might know her." He shrugged and held the door open for April. It was basically a windy day and when he went out, he felt the wind.

"Yes, she is. Much to her dislike. She would have rather still been in junior high, but, well...she's completely impressionable. She thinks that she has to live up to her parents' expectations" she explained with a sigh. She placed a firm hand on her baseball cap when she felt the gust of wind. She shook her head slightly. "Hmm...Raelyn? You're probably right."
Suddenly "Heartbreaker" was playing from April's bag. "Ah, cell phone. Hang on Roger." She picked it up, answering it. "April Ericcson..." She raised an eyebrow. "Penny? Hey hon what...you're busting out of this joint? Sweetie, have you been watching old detective shows again?" Then she blinked, realizing the severity of the situation. "You're actually doing something your parents wouldn't approve of on purpose! Who do I have to thank?" Another pause. "Kyle Winters? Wow, never knew he caused people to be rebellious. I should give him more credit...what? You'll meet us at Smitty's. Great! I'm proud of you, did I mention that? Okay bye." She hung up the phone with a huge grin on her face.
"Change of plans Roger. My cousin just climbed out her bedroom window and escaped that hellhole of a mansion. So we can go to Smitty's to meet her. Is that okay?"

"I'll ask Rae later when I see her." He said. He waited as she talked on her cell phone and pulled his jacket tighter around him. He smiled, "Wow, being a rebel now, sneaking out of her bedroom window, going against her parents...gotta love that." He laughed and slipped his hand into hers. "Let's go!"

April chuckled. "I know! I'm so proud of her!" She squeezed Roger's hand slightly. "Yes, let's darling" she said, winking playfully before they started heading toward Smitty's. She couldn't wait to see Penny. Somehow, she suspected a heart attack inducing surprise.

He smiled back at her, "Yep I can't wait to meet this cousin of yours. She is already on my good side." This was definitely a great day and he would have so much to tell Mark.
