Joanne fidgeted. She hoped Caroline got the note she had shoved through her locker. She had felt bad she'd never been able to cook for Caroline, so figured lunch would be the next best thing. She checked the soup and Sandwiches she had made before fidgeting again. The mini cooler sitting at her feet was getting odd stares, but she ignored them the best she could. She fought the urge to check the items in the cooler again. Spotting Caroline she smiled.

Caroline looked at the note again, making sure that she had read it right. Lunch with Joanne. She would probably have to tell her now. That she flirted like mad with some other girl...at least...maybe it would be a good idea. Would it? "Just eat...and then...let it go," She whispered to herself.
Caroline spotted Joanne from a ways off and smile immediatly hit her. She walked over to her and raised her brow at the cooler. What is she up to? Caroline asked herself. "Joanne!" She waved to her at the table and took a seat next to her. "I got your note. Very covert."

Joanne giggled. "Aw, what my note wasn't that bad was it?" She motioned to the seat opposite her. "I made lunch..." She smiled warmly. "I thought since I never got to make you dinner, I'd bring you lunch. We met over lunch...and it didn't sound so stupid in my head..." A blush crept up into her cheeks. And she busied herself with the cooler.
"First, I brought you this.." She said handing her an orange carnation. "It sorta reminded me of you." She sounded so dumb, Joanne thought. Shaking her head she continued. "Soup, I figured everyone loves Chicken Noodle soup. It's not hard to make so I made it last night and warmed it this morning. And Sandwiches, didn't know what you liked, so I made Chicken Salad and Egg Salad and brought two different kinds of bread..." She trailed off waiting for a reaction.

Caroline giggled quietly and shook her head. "No, no. It was very nice," She slipped the piece of paper in her pocket. "Oh did you really?" She smiled deeply. "Did you...oh Joanne, that's great! Once again I forgot that whole lunch thing so...this is great. And don't worry about that. You were busy, it happens." She said waving her arms. "I'm just glad we had some fun at the dance." Caroline couldn't help but feel...beyond guilty. How could she even think that Joanne didn't really care about her?
Caroline took the flower and her face lit up. "Oh...oh Joanne...this is..." She listened to the rest of what Joanne had brought. "Joanne...this is beyond nice. Like...out in the stratosphere." She leaned over and kissed her cheek.

"I'm glad you like it. Yes something came up, but it still was terrible of me to call you like that." She shook her head remorsefully. "We had fun at the dance though, at least I hope we did. I loved every second of it." She said with a laugh.
" As for the bread it's Pumpernickel and White bread. I wish I could take credit for that, but those came from the local bakery. I tried making bread once, and it just...the whole baking thing eludes me." She laughed. "I just thought lunch would be a nice treat."
Joanne couldn't help the smile of pleasure. She was so pleased Caroline liked it, and her face flushed when Caroline kissed her cheek.
"Awe, it's not that big of a deal."

"No really, Joanne, it's fine. You're allowed to have a life," Caroline said with a nod. "I loved the dance. We got you dancing. Course we still have some work to do, but you've gone leaps and bounds in just one night. You'll be swing dancing with me in no time," She winked at her with a giggle.
"Oh I love Pumpernickel!" Caroline said with some enthusiasim. Probably a little too enthusiastic. "And you could have taken credit it? I wouldn't have thought anything of it. It's a very nice treat...and this..." She pushed her hair behind her ear and then placed the flower along with her hair. "I feel very pretty. Thanks so much, Joanne."

"At least I didn't step on your toes to often." Joanne agreed. "It was a start, and as for swing dancing, well I'll give it a shot." She said with a grin.
"I love Pumpernickel too." Joanne said with a smile. "It's my favorite." She busied herself dolling out some soup for each before glancing at her. "Chicken or Egg Salad?" She raised an eyebrow "Are you ok? Your a little excited for soup and sandwiches." She said with a gentle smile.

"Oh my tootsies were good," Caroline said lifting her legs and wiggling her toes in her shoes. Not that Joanne could see them. "It's all good. We'll get to the swing dancing. I know a little bit. Few years back when swing was big...yeah I was a little bit obsessed. And I can play a mean version of Sing, Sing, Sing on my trumpet."
Caroline giggled. "Mine too. I'm just way too fond of it. It's expensive or else I would buy it more." Then she watched Joanne for a moment before shrugging. "I guess...not many people have...well do nice things for me. And this is a real nice thing. Makes me feel better." She smiled gently trying not to worry about Jonas more than she should.

"Oh very cool." Joanne said with a smile. "How long have you been playing the Trumpet?" She questioned. "We have a piano in the house, and in my mom's dreams I can play it." Joanne said with a laugh.
Joanne frowned lightly, having the distinct feeling that Caroline was keeping something from her. She decided it was none of her business before shrugging. "If your sure." She said "If you need to talk or anything, I'm here." She pulled out the sliced Pumpernickle and the Chicken and Egg Salads, before pulling out two cups and a two litter of coke.
"I hope Coke is ok.."

"Since fifth grade. So..." Caroline paused doing the math in her head slowly. "Five years. Yeah I know that took me too long. I have issues with math. I do love the trumpet though. I'm actually playing it for the musical. I'm really missing band...I would do marching band but it's too much time you gotta give up." She winced and then added. "Hopefully you won't think that I'm too geeky for that. Oh really? Yeah piano has got to be hard. I can play an instrument with three keys...but that's a lot of keys.
"No, it's ok," Caroline said with a shrug. "I'm just worried about Jonas. He's getting over being sick...I'm just being the worrier. It's ok." She nodded to him and then added. "Oh yeah that's fine. Really Joanne this is great. I'm gonna drool all over the table."

Joanne smiled. "You geeky? Don't make me laugh. If one of us is geeky at the table, it would be me I'm afraid." She grinned cheekily at her. "Oh well, my mom labors under the delusion I can play. I'm really bad. I mean really bad. My teacher told me she couldn't teach me. That's how bad I am!" She laughed.
"Awww poor little guy!" Joanne exclaimed when Caroline told her, that her brother had been sick. "Sick siblings are no fun!"
When Caroline said she was gonna drool all over the table she laughed. "Oh well then my job is complete. Go dig in." She said with a grin, motioning to the spread on the table.

Caroline shook her head. "You're too pretty to be geeky," She said the words jumping off her tounge. "And plus you don't got the big glasses and the high pants and the pocket protector. I wouldn't worry." She said with a wink. "Really? Well...bah! I'm sure that you could have learned. She must have been a bad teacher. They're never supposed to give up. I could always teach you trumpet. It's more fun than piano anyway."
"Yeah..that's for sure," Caroline said quietly. Then she giggled taking the soup first. "This smells...really good. Better than my pb&j and with grapes on the side, anytime."

"I have, what my teacher called, stupid fingers." She said shaking her head trying to hold back a laugh. When Caroline said she was to pretty to be geeky, she flushed. She chose to remain quite though, so not to begin to ramble.
"Ah, it's my special recipe for chicken noodle." Joanne grinned before taking her own bowl. She blew on it once or twice, before putting the sthingy in her mouth. She quickly took a piece of bread, cut it in half and began to build herself a Chicken Salad sandwich.

"Stupid fingers, my butt!" Caroline said almost feeling protective of Joanne. "You just need pratice that's all." She shifted in her seat and then slurpped her soup angrily. "Everyone is horrible when they start off. If you could have heard my fifth grade band..." She made a face as if she had eaten a lemon, "Believe me...horrible. But now we're not so bad. Took five years really. It takes time."
"Really? This actually is home made soup?" Caroline asked. "Not that I think you couldn't do it...just...never had. More into the can stuff in my house. Less work. No where near as good as this though."

Joanne looked up startled when Caroline nearly barked out that she just needed practice. She smiled gently. "It's ok, I don't care anyway." She shrugged. "The piano is a pretty instrument, but I don't want to play it. I've never been one to really get into music. I love to listen to it, but never really wanted to play it." She shrugged.
"Ah yes, this is home made soup. I can give you the recipe it was really super easy. Took maybe two hours all together." She shrugged. "Yeah, the canned stuff is quicker and easier, but lots of them are full of sodium, and I have to watch my sodium intake."
