Joanne slid into an empty table. She dropped the pizza she bought and cracked open her soda. Since her parents were away, so was the cook. She was a lovely woman, who always made sure to have plenty of frozen dinners in the freezer for her, but otherwise there was no real food in the house. She hated staying in that house alone. She let out a heaving sight and opened her pizza box.

Caroline sighed coming out of her class. All of the Latin words were flowing in and out of her head. Puella ambulabant viam. Puer ambulabant viam. Regina ambulabant viam. After a while it got a little bit tiring. But it was the only way she was gonna learn. She sat down at an empty table and pulled out a soda. Then she paused and looked in the bag again. "Damn, knew I forgot something this morning."
That morning her mother had been so hung over that she had to watch over her baby brother all morning. Bathe him, feed him, dress him, and amuse him before running to school. Her priorities hadn't been on her lunch that day. Caroline popped open her soda and sighed. Then out of the corner of her eye she saw a girl with an actual pizza box...maybe she had extra.
"Time to make new friends..." Caroline wandered over to the girl and waved pleasently. "Hey um...this seat taken?" She asked.

Joanne looked up. "Oh hey, go ahead." She said motioning to the seat. She saw the girl had a soda, but no food. After a moments thought she shrugged. "You like perperoni?" She asked pushing the box towards the girl.

Caroline pulled out the chair and took a seat. "Thanks so much. I'm Caroline by the way. Nice to meet you..." She waited for the girl to supply her name. Caroline was pretty sure that she had seen this girl around before. But she couldn't exactly place from where.
"Oh wow...yeah I do. Thanks so much...I um...only brought a soda," Caroline said pointing to it. "I thought I was gonna have to beg you. Thanks so much really." She opened the box and picked a piece out for herself. "Thanks again."

"No problem." Joanne replied with a smile, like there was any she could eat a whole pizza. "I'm Joanne." She answered the girl. "It's nice to meet you Caroline." She understood about just bringing a soda.
"Let me guess..." Joanne began. "You either didn't have anyone to make your lunch, or like I have nothing in your house execpt frozen meals for dinners." She waited expectedly for the answer.

"Nice to meet you, too," Caroline said with a nod. Joanne was awful...proper. But that worked. There were too many people who would barely look at you when she would introduce herself. It was a nice change. "Have we...did we have a class together or something? You look familiar."
Caroline laughed quietly trying not to loose the pizza in her mouth. She chewed and then held out a finger until her mouth was empty. "Yeah. The no one to make me lunch thing. I'm usually good with it on my own. But I had to watch out for my baby brother this morning. Frozen meals huh? That can't be too yummy. And you might loose teeth. I think this is better."

Joanne grinned. "I dont think we have any of the same classes, maybe a club?" She asked. When she said she had to watch her baby brother, she nodded. "I'm an only child." She told her. When Caroline inquired about the forzen meals she crinkled her nose a little.
"Hey, I got to eat something, and a working microwave is much better than having it dethaw through out the day here at school. So I either buy lunch here or order something when I can get away with it. When my parents are home, I can usually bring lunch."

"GSA?" Caroline asked. It was one of the few clubs that she was in. Art Club was the other. But she never really got to either of them too much. She always had to head home to watch over Jonas and her mother. "Or Art Club?" Joanne didn't really strike her as an artsy person, but she figured she'd give it a try.
"Your parents are away?" Caroline asked. "They go some place cool?"

"Yeah, GSA." Joanne replied, looking up surprised. When Caroline asked if her parents went some where cool she shrugged. "Maybe, I dunno. It's always somewhere with them. You know what's really sad. I see my parents about two months out of the year, and even then they tell me I'm not doing well enough. I'm in so many activites to please them, that I have to sneak into GSA!" She didn't know why she said all that, and looked apollogetically at the girl.
"Sorry, didn't mean to tell you all that."

Caroline smiled and nodded finally allowing herself to look at Joanne. She always held back the good old "check out" before she was sure that the girl was either, a lesbian, bi, or friendly enought that she wouldn't mind. She was awful pretty. The skin tone, the hair. Yep, she was up there in Caroline's book.
"Oh no," Caroline said shaking her hand. "I don't mind at all. I'm good for venting...anyway I stole your pizza so...yeah. I would say we're even but it really wasn't a problem. I'm sorry that you barely get to see your parents. If you want to I could help you sneak in. I'm a good lookout. I can do the bird noises and all to let you know if someone is coming."

Joanne smiled. "The bird noises huh?" She laughed. "Ah, it's not a huge deal. To my father, his daughter is not in the GSA, cause she wouldn't have reason to be." She rolled her eyes. "Wants someone to carry on the family name."
She looked up at the girl across from her again. She had to admitt she was a striking girl. She had what appeared to be flawless skin, beatiful hair, and such pretty eyes. "Hey if you ever need a place to escape your mom or your little brother, let me know. Even if my parents were home, they wouldn't realize someone extra in the house." She said with a smile.

"Oh...not too fond of your sexuality then?" Caroline asked finishing up her pizza. Well, she coudl nick off the option of a girl who was just trying to support the gay community. "My mom just ignores it. Even though it's been like...a known fact since I was little. But then again she usually ignores me period."
Caroline smiled deeply and nodded. "Might take you up on that one day. Although I could never get sick of my brother. He's like my best friend. Even though he's two. But yeah...that would be nice. You make it sound like your house is mammoth size. Is it?"

"In my fathers world, his daughter is not a lesbian. She is a cheerleader, and the quarterback longs to date her." She replied, in disgust. When she said she made her house sound mammoth, and asked if it was, she shifted slightly.
"Uh, I guess so." Joanne replied. "All I really meant by it, was that their usually plastered, or ignoring everyone but themselves." She said with a shrug.

"Oh wow. That's a lot of expectations," Caroline said with a slight frown. She was so in tune to Joanne story that she really didn't have time to register that she wasn't alone. "It sounds like he's hard to please. Well maybe one day he'll realize that you might not be those things. But you're still amazing in your own way," Caroline suggested quietly and gently. "I don't mean to intrude or anything."
"Plastered?" Caroline asked raising her brow. "Sounds like your parents and my mom should go boweling. That's cool having a bigger house. If just cause you could probably have an awesome game of hide and go seek in there."

"Your probably could." Joanne agreed. She finished off a slice of pizza and took a long sip of her soda. "Yeah, he is kind of hard to please." She decided after a while. "I told him I want to be a lawyer, he wants me to be a congress woman." She shrugged When Caroline said she was amazing in her own way, she felt her neck warm slightly, again thanking her skin was dark enough to cover it.
"Yeah, now that's an idea. When my parents are home, well send them out with your mom, we can take your bother and hide." She said with a laugh.
